Had a massive stroke jan 2020

Rough deal :(

Any pre-cursors which you look at in hindsight and think, I should have (not) done that? Heavy smoker, drinker etc?

Dang, that is a real curve ball of a situation OP.

It’s tough to know what to say, other than I’m deeply sorry to hear of your situation and I hope it becomes as manageable as possible.

Yeah tough break OP - hope you manage to get sorted out to establish some sort of normality again and fingers crossed you're in the percentage that get some functionality back. I know that personally, I'd not be mentally resilient enough to deal with that situation.

Gaming is a tough one but could be overcome - maybe look at different genres, otherwise some mice have hat switches on them which could be mapped to WSAD and might help you with moving around.

******* hell man, sorry to hear that.

you getting all the support, physical and psychological, that you need?

Regarding the gaming, as mentioned above, there are plenty of ways round any disability. There’s quadriplegics playing and streaming on twitch so don’t give up on gaming if it’s something you want to keep doing and it might help you through the inevitable dark days ahead.

despite all the bickering and crap that goes on in here there’s still a hell of a great community spirit.

If you need anything, just speak up. I’m sure we can pull together and help ‘one of our own’ fellow forumites.

Hear hear. I came in to say the same thing about gaming.

Very sad to hear this Threepwood, a regular suffering like makes me realise how precious life/good health is.

I understand not everyone that goes through such things may want to keep us updated with how your recovery progresses/develops, but I'm guessing it may be something you want to do seeing as you've shared your initial story. There's certainly many people here who will be keen to hear how you're getting on.

Really sorry to hear that mate! How old are you if you don’t mind me asking? Totally out of the blue? We’re you otherwise fit and healthy?

Your situation sounds like a copy/paste of what happened to my father a few ago, weird to read someone else going through the exact same steps.

Not a great situation to be in and this will be one of the biggest challenges for you and those around you as life will now take on a new meaning. So stay strong, remain optiminstic and work through it. Don't give up

I watched my dad struggle to let go of the things he was used to doing and trying to fill said void with meaningful activities. Options will be limited, but he chose lifestlye and health as his focus and seems to have paid off.

Recovery is possible, don't think that you cant make things better.

There might be a limit to said recovery due to damage to brain but I watched my dad go from being wheelchair bound to now walkig an average of 5 kilometers a day and he's 70.

The neurosurgeon team said he would likely never walk again, but he told them to go stuff it and pushed every day with small steps until he was able to walk independantly. He still has issues with his left side, but he's adapted and making it work. Find a good physio who can help identify which parts of your body need the most work and work on trying to build your muscles again and just keep working them.

Siezures are also manageable. Took my dad some time to find the right combo and dosages of drugs to take, but seems to have found what works for him and seems like he can go for 6-9months at a time without siezures. So explore some options your doctor and start working on it.

I think you should try and update this thread with your progress. You might suprise yourself in a few years when looking back on it. Best of luck

I'm just reading OP's post and thinking wow.

I've grown up with a disability, and around people with disabilities. It is always interesting to hear the personal struggle.

Things are tough and they will have changed forever. Life is about adapting. You are still the same person just in a different situation.

Stay strong, and fight those small battles each day and things will improve every day.
