Haggling !!

I'm not trying to put you off with the post I made, just make sure you have personally confirmed it's been done on any Renault that uses a CAM belt. It's always worth offering to take it if they'll do the cam belt or give you a fair amount off to allow for you to have it done. They've probably got a spanner monkey dunking digestives all day on the payroll anyway, far better he's paid to change the belts (and make sure they do the pump while they're at it) as the only cost to the garage is the parts, the monkey's got to be paid anyway and they don't work for bandanna's any more :(

I don't usually hang out in this section, but thought I'd add my 2p's.

Moonpie2; 1) check the history yourself, don't trust the dealer (it's his job to sell you the car no matter what) to be honest about it.
2) Cam belt change is REALLY important (years ago I had to scrap my Mondeo because I hadn't bothered to change the cam belt :o), you could check the condition of it yourself visually by removing the cover ;)
3) Have you consider having the car professionally inspected, RAC or AA will do it (for quiet a large fee (£100+ I believe)) or as you seem to have a good relationship with your local garage they will probably be willing to give the car a once over.

If in doubt, walk away ;)

Well the cambelt talk didn't help.
But there were a few other little niggles I had in the back of my mind that I was willing to overlook originally.
I'll not bore you with the details, but all the talk on here has prepared me well for next time :)

There's a couple of really good buying guides on the cliosport.net forums, well worth a read.

that can only be a good thing :]
take not of the guides that are available, even if it means printing it off and using it as a physical checklist (have seen this done on a boxster forum) :D
