Half-Life 3 confirmed!

with HL2 VR just releasing I am preparing to back to ravenholme. just need Amazon to deliver my new big boy pants (and spare set) ;)

I am not holding my breath .... I do think if valve are not going to release it perhaps they could give the IP over to the guys who made black Mesa if they are up for it.

but IF it were gonna come, 2024 will be the 20 year birthday of HL2 and that would be a fitting release date.

Sorry, HL2 VR?!

oops my bad actually another couple of weeks till it unlocks. but you can wishlist it now

it's a fan thing but endorsed by valve and mechanically is excellent. still tweaks to improve are on the to-do list but the only one I am really bothered about are the episodes support in VR

Don't even care anymore and it would probably be some crap VR game anyway
do you think Half Life Alyx is crap then? (fair enough, to each their own but this is the 1st time I have ever heard that said about it) or just sour because you don't have VR?

HLA is anything but crap imo.

I don't think they would make HL3 VR only. but it would be fantastic if offered as an option.
HLA I don't believe took anything away from flat screen gaming..... valve barely make games any more, far too happy imo to sit on their asses and take money off others thanks to their dominant market position (lots of gamers simply won't buy games if not on steam)

but valve had just released a vr headset and had nothing to really showcase it esp their novel controllers so they made HLA (they promised 3 made for VR titles and only delivered 1)

so imo it was HLA a vr title or nothing.... and unfortunately valve.seem to be going back to nothing again. :(

Don't do this to me man.... :(

What will be crazy if it does come out is the huge amount of gamers that would have never heard of Half Life at all, it being released in 2004 there could be a massive resurgence in young gamers! Don't know how they'd get through the hoverboat level of HL2 with the state of attention spans these days though :p
It would be amazing, Valve can then remaster the original games with Source 3 and bundle a STEAM deal alongside HL3.

It will make billions.

Gaben, if you are reading this...

sour? VR is crap the majority of gamers don't have it and don't want it.
My son has VR I could borrow his but no thanks, I'll pass

ok then!
but by your logic the majority of gamers don't have 3 screen setups, hotas, racing wheels and pedals or high end gaming pcs.

so I guess all of those must be crap too ?

note if you don't enjoy VR or haven't tried titles like HLA in VR that is fine... but it does not make them crap.

They are working on two Half-Life games, Citadel and HLX. Whether they ever see the light of day is another matter. They've made and cancelled more games than they've released.

I know. they are a pain in the ass. over the years they have had some really good IP but they just haven't done anything with it.

For Half Life 3 to be a thing I think Valve will need to have eyes on an existential threat.
I reckon they're holding on to it as a Linux-only (SteamOS) release for the inevitable day when Elder Scrolls VI is only available on Game Pass (only half joking!)
