Hamilton to Mercedes? BBC

I don't even think Vettel will end up at Ferrari. They don't need anyone for at least 6 years unless Alonso has told them he will retire early. I'd bet Alonso signs yet another extension. They seem to love him and he loves them.

yeah he said in live chat last week that he has nothing decided after 2016 but if he wanted to keep racing then it would be with Ferrari. Then again he would say that.

One point that hasn't really been picked up on - Kimi filling the vacant Hamilton seat. I'd like to see that, though as Allen says, the sponsor thing could be the stumbling block. Always liked Kimi as a driver.

He hinted that Kimi wasn't happy at Mclaren. I never got that feeling but I guess he knows more inside info, but Kimi rarely looks happy anyway. Kimi's qualifying has been suspect this year so I guess it would be a good pairing with JB. Both Mclarens lining up on the fourth row ;)

So have Ferrari said somewhere that Perez is a contender to take Massas seat next year?

You know what Luca di said, which fits in with the 2 year loan to Sauber then to Ferrari in 2014 if they feel he is ready, letting him leave the contract to join McLaren would not be part of that plan.

Luca di saying he needs more experience is not saying we have no interest in him, otherwise they would not be having him in the driver academy and in the simulator to take all that knowledge to McLaren. How you can say Ferrari have little or no interest in him while he has a Ferrari contract is baffling.

Little to no interest FOR NEXT YEAR!

His name has come up in this thread as a possible replacement to Hamilton at McLaren for next year, and it certainly doesnt look like his going to be in a Ferrari.

It had nothing to do with what Ferrari may be thinking for a couple of years time.

It has everything to do with what Ferrari are thinking in a year or so, if they are planning to have him in the car with some more experience behind him then they will not let him leave to McLaren, surely you can see that?

McLaren will not be after a 1 year deal with Perez.

Unless the plan is for him to gain experience of Ferrari's simulator set up, then join McLaren for a year, get in on a bit of corporate espionage regarding their set up and then gloriously arrive at Ferrari the next year, McLaren trade secrets tucked under his arm.

...what? It could happen :p

How will they stop him without putting him in the Ferrari? He's a Ferrari young driver academy member, not a contracted driver. If McLaren want him they will take him. The only weapon they have against it would be to sign him to drive a Ferrari, which is... something hey have shown little to no interest in doing!

It would be like Hamilton in 2006.

Sounds like a good plan :D

He has a contract with Ferrari? Like the others in the academy like Fisichella and Gene?

McLaren can't just take him as James Allen even says.

Really? A Ferrari contracted driver driving for them in 2014, is the same as Lewis going to Merc for 3 years and then to Ferrari in 2016, totally.

Bearing in mind it is a fact Perez was loaned to Sauber for 2 seasons.

  • You're seem to be making such a big deal of a fairly throwaway comment by Skeeter.
  • Contracts don't make something 100% certain to happen. We all know that, right?
  • Lighten up chuck, it was just a joke.

Given there are only a handful of such drivers in the Academy, and only one currently driving in Formula 1, i'd be absolutely amazed if his Young Driver Academy contract doesn't have stipulations regarding who he can and can't race for.

He's on loan to Sauber rather than their own driver isn't he? A team who obviously already have close ties to Ferrari anyway.

He's a Ferrari contracted driver, in that he's signed a contract with Scuderia Ferrari as part of their driver programme (which is a Formula 1 team derived programme). He's not a completely free and independent agent.
