Hamilton to Mercedes? BBC

No, of course he's not completely free, but then nobody is. But nothing in his Ferrari Young Driver deal alone is going to allow Ferrari to insist he stays at Sauber while there is a McLaren race seat on the table.

Funny, at the start of that article, when it was talking about Di Resta I was about to start a post with "I don't see why McLaren would be so interested in Di Resta, if I were them I'd be knocking on Sauber's door every weekend." :p

It's called "speculation," and it's what we're doing in this thread anyway. It's fun.

Randomly pulling this one out of the bag, maybe Mercedes are throwing I'd resta in to the deal with mclaren to get Hamilton over to them? Just a thought.

Also what's to say mclaren wouldn't be interested in a Hamilton move to merc. Yes he is important to mclaren, but so are the engines and mclaren will have to py for then engine supply from 20133 I believe ( could be 2014, but they will have to pay soon ).

Further interesting thoughts would be, what I'd Hamilton was already driving for Mercedes this year, what's to say they wouldn't have won more races already? There car was strong t the beginning of the season, and I would go so far to say that, currently, Hamilton is a better driver then both schumi and rosberg.

To clear up, I am a big Hamilton and mclaren fan, and find the whole topic very interesting, best case scenario nothing changes, but I don't really see there being a worst case out of all this. If anything it would make for an interesting year next year.

Lastly, schumi to mclaren??? :p

I disagree to be honest.

They're not going to run a driver development programme that allows the contracted drivers to go and race for their arch rivals just as they're approaching their peak.

What would be the point in the entire programme if it offered Ferrari absolutely no control over his career?

I'd be amazed if it was possible for McLaren to offer him a seat and him accept it, without it passing through Ferrari first and having to get the nod from them. It's no coincidence the team he's at are a team running Ferrari engines.

Im not saying it wouldn't go through Ferrari, I'm saying the possibility of maybe getting a Ferrari drive some when would be easily trumped by a guaranteed drive for McLaren and a fat cheque.

In 2006 Ron thought it was too soon to bring Hamilton into F1, but he knew that even though Lewis had been signed up to McLaren since he was a kid, that alone wouldn't be able to hold off another team if they wanted him, so there only option was to take the risk and give him a drive.

If McLaren want Perez, he will be in either a Ferrari or a McLaren next year. The only way they could keep him is to give him a drive. Telling him he has to stay at Sauber "cos they say so" wouldn't be enough. Even more so with the Vettel rumours.

LOL at JA outing EJ : "Eddie Jordan, apparently prompted by both XIX and Bernie Ecclestone, lobbed the grenade in on Wednesday, saying that Hamilton was on the point of signing for Mercedes. It was a final call to McLaren to improve the deal on offer or lose their man."

it cant be just coincidence that eddie does this and around the same time just happens to be auctioning off all his jordan trophys etc.

is he having money troubles?

Theres a joke in there somewhere about white chocolate choc-ices...

thats awful :D

Cant see Perez at McLaren, it could happen (and imo Ferrari would kick Massa out of his seat and put him in there before allowing Perez to join a major rival) but its highly unlikely. PaulDR is much more likely if there is any seat shuffling to happen, even though he has struggled a bit more this year than I would have hoped (n a reasonable car)

Di Resta is already contracted to Force India next year.

McLaren driver Jenson Button has hinted that Paul di Resta of Force India can be his teammate in future as the rumours about Lewis Hamilton’s quitting are booming.

Di Resta has joined Sports Partnership which was founded by Button along with his manager, Richard Goddard. Moreover, Button’s PR guru, James Williamson will handle the issues of his compatriot from now on.

The 2009 world champion said that he is very pleased to have someone in his company on whom he can really trust.

“We talked about that scenario about having another driver in the Sports Partnership. I completely trust Richard and James and everyone who is involved in the company,” he said. “It had to be someone that I trusted but also thought was very talented and who I could work with in a way.”

It will be important to mention that there are many speculations that Button’s teammate, Lewis Hamilton will leave the Woking based team after the expiry of his contract at the end of this year.

Meanwhile, the reports are stating that Di Resta has been seen as a potential replacement of Hamilton in McLaren for the coming year.

Although, Button refused to make any kind of comments in this regard, however, he expressed that he has no issue in working Di Resta. In addition, he said that he has spent some valuable time with his fellow citizen during his training days and admired his talent and skills as a driver.

"I spend a lot of time with Paul. We train a lot together; we spend a lot of time cycling in the south of France together. I think he is very, very talented and he has got his head screwed on. That is the important thing,” he added.

The Briton is having some harsh time with Hamilton after the twitter issue. Additionally, he has said that he is not going to support the 2008 world champion is his title chase and he is trying his best to make his own mark stronger in the championship fight.
