Hamilton to Mercedes? BBC

The difference is Vettel has an agreement for 2014 because that's when he contract is up. Hamilton is a year to early so for him to get a similar deal with RBR will mean finding a 1 year deal for next year, which he won't get.

A driver of Hamilton's calibre not being able to find an F1 team who will have him for 1 year?

Are you serious?

Most teams in F1 would love to have a Hamilton in their team (even if it is just for 1 year). Who knows...after 1 year, if things go well, Hamilton may stay in that team.

Why do you think anyone at all (apart from another midfield team) would give LH a one year deal though -

Because he is a top line driver.
Can you give me a top line F1 driver who was forced to sit out a year, in the last 19 years?

Remember, Hamilton is 2nd in the WDC right now. His stock is high.
A top line driver will not have any problems finding a seat, even if it means a midfield team has to forcibly make room for him.

If I were running a midfield team (Sauber for instance) and I had the chance to have Hamilton for 1 year....I would be on the phone to his agent giving him every reason to join us. The media exposure. The extra points he is likely to get for the team. I makes racing AND business sense.

EDIT: have a read of this:

If I was Mclaren I would prefer to have Perez than Hamilton tbh. Hamilton hasn't looked happy for a long time and after this contract negotiation I can't imagine there will be a good relationship between the team and him even if he does stay. Perez is fast, keen and seems to have a good attitude, and will also be much cheaper giving Mclaren more to spend on the car development which is the important bit.

The only advantage Hamilton has is the pr value of the audience he attracts but Perez being Mexican also brings a new audience to sponsors.

That article has nothing to do with LH possibly going to a team for a year
(I agree with what the article states, but IF LH was as definite as that article sounds he would have already re-signed lol)

Im not so sure, think what young and upcoming drivers (which is what Sauber and the like survive on) would think about being ******** over by the team writing off one or more years of their signed contract (after all Sauber for ex is a pretty decent car) the incumbant driver would most likely be losing out drastically (and remember its not like any other team would sign the ex-sauber driver for a year either)

Admittedly there is a lot of competition out there (which suits the team of course), but its still a long -term consideration over very short term gain.

Imo its also team technology and secrets that would also be leaving with said drivers which wouldnt be ideal for any team on the grid.

Nico Rosberg has dealt a blow to the Lewis Hamilton saga, insisting he is definitely staying at Mercedes next year.

And 27-year-old German Rosberg also said he hopes his current teammate, Michael Schumacher, also stays with the Brackley based team in 2013.

According to intense media speculation, Briton Hamilton is weighing up a big monetary offer to join Mercedes next year.

Some have surmised that Rosberg could move over to McLaren to replace the 2008 world champion, while others think Hamilton's move would push Schumacher back into retirement.

"I'm definitely with the Silver Arrows (Mercedes) and I'm looking forward to getting some more race wins next season," Rosberg told the DAPD news agency.

As for Schumacher's uncertain future, Rosberg added: "I think it would be right if he stays.

"We get along well, the competition between us is good, Michael is still at a very, very high level and it's a real challenge to race against him.

"We push the team forwards well," he insisted.

But Rosberg also acknowledged that Schumacher is one of the keys of the 2013 driver market.

"Not much will happen until Schumacher, Hamilton or Massa are able to say 'I'm definitely here'," he explained.

Meanwhile, Schumacher's former manager insists he has not given away any hints about the seven time world champion's plans beyond 2013.

Willi Weber is the architect of the great German's new EUR 7.5 million personal sponsorship with a Chinese company, which has caused some to surmise that Schumacher must be staying in formula one beyond 2012.

But Weber told Auto Bild Motorsport: "The (sponsor) contract is independent of any driving contract."

"I think we're all wise enough to understand that people write things and that what is written is not necessarily what is true," Hamilton said. "There's a lot of speculation, there's a lot of stories that aren't true."

Instead, Hamilton stressed that he was staying focused on winning this year's World Championship - an ambition significantly bolstered by his win at Monza last Sunday.

"I've been with the team since I was 13 and we've worked so hard since 2009 to try and win this championship and hopefully, finally, we're in the position where we can.

"So the most important thing is that I do not get distracted by all the rubbish that's been around.

sounds like eddie jordan will be wrong again then

Just in time for the next batch of rumours from the next race weekend...

I suspect is was a plan by bernie to put pressure on mercedes in the first place when he came out with the schumacher comment.

all signs seem to point to schumacher wanted another 1 year contract with another 1 year option

same drivers if they sign the concord agreement
i think thats what schumacher is waiting for and to see how the car would develop which i'd imagine is why he was so interested in the young drivers test
