Hamilton to Mercedes? BBC

Do people really think Hamilton has just seen pound signs and left. He knows a hell of a lot more than any of us do and has access to a lot more information on which to base his decision.

He probably knows about McLaren but nothing else, not like Merc would be telling him all their secrets only for him to stay at McLaren.

The rules are happening. The FIA make the rules, not Bernie, and the only people making a fuss are Bernie and Ferrari. There argument doesn't make any sense and they are just trying to stir up trouble. Apparently there is a growing rift between Todt and Bernie as Todt is taking control.

The FIA do not solely make the rules, they just govern the rules which are all created by the teams and working groups.

Schumacher has said he has no plans to manage or own his own team.

As of yesterday or today....certainly.
But this mind-set can be changed in a few weeks/months.

I do not believe that MSc is someone who can simply retire and go sit on a beach somewhere. He tried retiring from F1 and that didnt last long. He needs to be occupied. He needs to be involved in motor sport.

If an opportunity presents itself, I'm sure he would consider it.

I don't want Schumi leaving F1, I want him to take over a team that would be awesome.

As for Lewis I think he has covered all the bases, He will be No1 in the team, He can earn Untold more money & he will be in full control, We are only talking about a couple of years here after all.

We shall see, time will tell. Read this through if you haven't already and tell me this doesn't read like he's basically saying "scrap the rules and we will pay for your new HQ" :D

I've never been convinced they will happen and have no real feelings either way, but it would be terrible for those that have spent money on R&D.

He was quite heavily involves in Ferrari for a while after he retired. He could take a similar role at Mercedes? I imagine Hamilton would really benefit from being mentored by Schumacher.

That's my point. They are complaining that the cost of developing the engines is getting to high, yet if they scrap the rules the money will be wasted with no chance to recoup it by selling the engines to F1 teams, so will be worse .

Do you think even the new improved LH would appreciate anyone "mentor'ing" him ? Im not so sure, it could work but it could go the other way too imo

edit - is the Lauda appointment to Merc very recent, because every time I see / hear him he always appears "pro" Ferrari.....

Bernie does get his way, but what he normally spouts in the media is actually much further than what he wants, meaning that when those involved agree on a middle ground, its actually what Bernie wanted all along.

I can't see any middle ground in this though. And any long running feud over what may or may not happen with the engines is going to put off engine manufacturers more than either of the engine regs themselves would. Given that were probably now less than a year from the point where teams start dropping the engines into the back of their 2014 chassis, its got to be too late hasn't it? This isn't a simple bolt on either, its a redesign of the entire rear of the car. How far is he gong to let the teams get before pulling the plug? If it too late, it could end up being just impossible for some of the smaller teams to redesign their cars I time.

I think its just Bernie trying to have a power struggle with Todt, but he needs to be careful about what collateral damage it may do. No point fighting on the side of Ferrari if it then means he looses Renault, Mercedes, Cosworth and a bunch of teams too.

Its a dangerous game to be playing.

Yeah, Lauda joined Mercedes last week.

I think Lewis is very aware of what happens when he tries to do things on his own (see all of 2011), so he may enjoy having a mentor. There was an interesting bit in F1 Racing from Jackie Stewart about how all top sports people have coaches, except F1 drivers. There's an attitude of not wanting to take advice from anyone who hasn't achieved more than them.

Bild has MS in talks with Ferrari, Sauber and Lotus....:)
theres a rumour they bernie and schumacher had a meeting with lopez (owns renault)

could be fanboy BS/whichful thinking though

aparently mSC's manager was spotted in italy according to "italian tv" but no one has been able to post a source.

i would take anything about him going anywhere other than sauber as 90% chance of beeing BS

schumacher had opportunity to resign in the summer but wanted to wait.

its almost as if he had no confidence in merc improving at all and he was waiting to see wether merc could actually upgrade a car for once.
merc werent prepared to just wait and schumacher took the risk or decided he would try and get a drive elsewhere.

no doubt brawn has spun hamilton some epic tale like the one he told schumacher 3 years ago to get him our of retirement.

btw on another forum some people are wondering if schumachers private jet will still be the silver arrows colour or wether it will change soon which could be the earliest indication hes going elsewhere

You think he might go to Sauber?
I dont know
but ferrari arent likely to ditch massa and i dont know if schumacher would want to be the one to end massas career anyway.
lotus are probably happy with grosjean. (although apparently bernie wants msc here, i guess alonso vs button/perez vs hamilton vs kimi/msc is good for bernies bank account)
sauber are the only other team i could see him going to.

discounting all the DNF's from technical failures schumachers season would be looking a lot better but people like to concentrate on the 2 accidents one of which was 50/50 his fault imo

hes still a good solid driver and a known quantity aswell as bringing with a wealth of experience and technical feed back and 20mil+ worth of sponsors (as told by dieter zetsche ceo of daimler which owns mercedes)

would you really want to hire someone like algeusari over msc?

This is all assuming that Mercedes don't offer him something to make him stay. You don't steal the most successful driver in F1 away from his 15 year partnership with Ferrari only to then let him go after 3 years.

I've always said that there was more to Mercedes signing Schumacher than just having him as a driver. It will be interesting to see what they do now.
