was it the same guy who crashed into another car in the pitlane because he forgot where the brake was?

Oh you mean canada years ago..well at least he never did it TWICE in the same season, lets see if MSC can make it 3 :D

I'm off for coffe and a bacon buttie....but I will leave you with

Mercedes now have best F1 driver in Lewis Hamilton, says Niki Lauda

PS..your ninja editing is crap a bit like *** :D

crashed into hamilton 5 times in a single season though :D

whats lauda suposed to say now hes beeng paid to tow the mercedes pr line?

"What Lewis did goes beyond the limit. He is completely crazy. If the FIA do not impose a penalty, then I despair.

"In Monaco, Hamilton resorted to dubious tactics," Lauda continued. "This time, he has gone too far. It's beyond a joke. You can't carry on driving like this, because eventually someone is going to get killed."

lauda speaks so much crap he flips between opinions like hes throwing a dice to decide.... one minute someone is the best , the next there crap.

MS can go play tiddlywinks or dominoes, but he will always be the greatest driver F1 has ever seen. And that hurts many on here :)

when racers wanted to race no matter the weather and they wouldnt dream or crying on the radio

Who? I think 99% on here know how good he was.

i suspect 70% on here never watched f1 in the 90s with some of the comments they come out with

some people would have us think an average driver can luck into 91 race wins because in the 90s there was no competition

Same 99% that jump all over his every mistake these days?

Or maybe they just do it to annoy arknor, which is just as likely ;)

Generally we talk about how drivers are doing currently though, is there a need to mention how great he was before all the time? In short, I don't really see your point. I don't think I've seen anyone say he wasn't a good driver (in the past).

Perhaps Vettel may be able to change that. He has a great team behind him and he can even win his 3rd title this year. The best thing about him is that he hasn't yet reached his peak. Most drivers tend to peak at around 30 years of age.

Currently though, I agree.

Totally agree.

You can certainly "luck" into a great car which is much faster than everybody else. You might win a title. But to win 7 titles, 91 races, so many podiums, so many points...it is impossible to "luck" into that situation.

The greatest thing about what MSc did was when he moved to Ferrari - a dog of a car. The team had not won a WDC title for 17 years (odd). He left the all-conquering Bennetton, for a Ferrari team who were making cars, which would scrap 1-2 wins per year.

At the time, the way it worked was that the best drivers would move to the best team/car. If your car became slow, the top driver would move away. But MSc bucked this trend and moved in the opposite direction. I'd never seen anything like this. At the time, most said he cared more about money than winning....but the guy did what he set out to achieve. Even Senna (who many regard as the all round fastest driver of all time), would not have considered "down grading" to another team, to make them great. In 1994, he "upgraded" to Williams as McLaren just weren't fast enough. MSc won the title that year (under dubious circumstances), but won the title the next year, at a canter.

The fastest driver ever...probably not.
The fairest driver ever...certainly not.
The most complete driver ever...definitely.

In his 2nd career though, he is just...average.

Sounds a bit like Hamilton moving to Mercedes.

Yep.

Nope. Hamilton isn't even leading this year's title race.

It would be akin to Vettel last year, after winning the title by a big margin, moving this year, to Lotus/Renault...and then going on to make Lotus the most decorated team in F1, ever.

Just understand that the MSc you are seeing in 2012, is NOT the same MSc we saw in his first career.

With that in mind, you can understand the people who claim he is diluting the greatness of his first career. If there are a lot of people who have only ever seen the 1 podium, beaten by his team mate career then they aren't going to know about the all conquering first one.
