Hammond Critical - Top Gear Car Crash!

Tis sad news indeed. However I have to say that i'm quite shocked at the amount of coverage this is receiving in the news.

Fair enough, last night it was breaking news on the news channels. But this morning to have it as the lead headline on the BBC News site is pretty sad. There are far more important things happening in the news that should be higher up the list. It may be a slow news day, but surely the situation in Thailand should be the most prominent story.

Again, don't take this the wrong way. I like the guy and wish him a speedy recovery. But the way this story is being handled smacks slightly of the ol' Princess Diana / Ken Bigley type thing. For the next 48 hours I guess we'll be having reporters standing outside the hospital giving updates on his condition every 5 minutes, whilst in the studio they interview people that have known him as if he was a senior politician or member of the royal family. I dread to think of the response if the poor guy had died in the crash. :(
Did you make the same comments when Steve Irwin died? This situation is no different really - except that Hamster is clinging to life.

And Thailand will be using democracy again in a couple weeks... boring..

Hope he makes a full recovery, besides the lost to his family and friends, Top Gear would not be the same without him.

Heres to a quick an full recovery, get well soon Hammy :)

Hope he makes a full recovery.

If he doesn't you just know he'd have the coolest wheelchair ever, and he'll end up racing JC and JM around the studio on it. :p

papers on bbc24 now

sun says it was going 315mph :(

edit: well beaten

says the speed is being argued about.

also says you could post the parts of the car thru a letter box :(

i hate the Sun for stuff like that always goes for the shocking comments when usually theyve fabricated most of it

fibreglass bodies disintergrate in that situation so the fact pieces could be posted through a letterbox is completely inconsequential

Vampire, the jet car in question has been owned, driven and maintained by Colin Fallows for many years and there are very few people with more jet experiance in the UK than the Vampire team. The car is top notch in safety and those fetures will be what saved Richard's life. A similar crash in the new Bugatti Veyron 16/4 I doubt he would be alive from 250mph

Unfortunately it was an accident, accidents happen, motorsport is dangerous and it is no ones fault

best wishes to Richard Hammond and good luck on a speedy recovery, I'm sure he will be fine in time, he's stable now which is very good news

Exactly, it's really misleading - I had visions of pretty much all the car disintegrating but when you check out the pictures released today it's not *that* bad, seems the main part of the body is still together..

yes that's right, he did complain of lower back pain according to the BBC.

Maybe that he could feel pain is a good sign? In that he could feel something.

Hoping he makes a full recovery.
