Hammond Critical - Top Gear Car Crash!

Exactly, it's really misleading - I had visions of pretty much all the car disintegrating but when you check out the pictures released today it's not *that* bad, seems the main part of the body is still together..

The main worry is that the rollcage dug into the grass... hopefully not too far to cause serious neck injury. I suspect his injuries are from being rattled and twisted about in the cockpit from the extreme sideways forces.

Just been on Sky news. Richard Hammond suffers a "significant brain injury" but doctors are reasonably optimistic of a full recovery...

looking good ;)

EDIT should read 'a good recovery'

He's lucky he was in Yorkshire and could get to the LGI in such a short time if its a significant brain injury.

He really adds that little thing to the TopGear team. They all bounce off each other.

Edit: Was also mentioned on Sky News earlier that James May was suppsed to be driving.

Id pretty much just like to echo all the sentiments and say i hope he makes a full recovery, if i does i dont think he'll let something like this hold him back, something like this wouldnt stop the crazy enthusiasm of someone like hamster

also, i hope he still has all his teeth

Sky news, and BBC also reporting the same, confirmed from Leeds hospital :|

Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond has suffered a "significant brain injury" after crashing a jet-powered car at speeds of up to 300mph during filming.

Doctors at Leeds General Infirmary said they were "reasonably optimistic" the 36-year-old would make a good recovery.

The BBC, which is likely to face close scrutiny, has begun an inquiry. The police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are also investigating.

They sound pretty optimistic.

Does anyone know if a 'brain injury' is the same as 'brain damage'? An injury sounds less permanent to me (and I hope that's the case).

The brain injury is no doubt bruising - if they can get it under control, there is every chance of recovery. Hopefully he hasn't got any long term effects from this.

On a less significant note - I heard on the radio that Top Gear might be cancelled now. Sad news really on both counts - he loves that job too.

Knee-jerk tbh.
