nonsense it works just the same as it did in win 7, why dont you try it yourself instead of searching the web looking for reasons to bash windows 8.

Can't as I've gone back to Windows 7 thank goodness. This abomination of an OS is I'm afraid destined to be another Windows ME. If the user had the option to strip away the Metro UI then it would be OK, but then again if the user had the option to delete the Metro UI why would you bother to move from Windows 7?

I can only see Microsoft's decline accelerating with W8, currently down to 32% when you count in all other devices. Heck of a change from even 5 years ago.

I like some aspects of the Modern Ui, the music on demand feature is cool. I like some of the free games, for example Pinball F2. So I do like the added content.

What I do not like is having an phone os and X-box operating sysytem on my main PC, I think the UI in its current form makes a Windows PC with keyboard and mouse unintuitive, things I can just do in Windows 7 or Xp even (Turn off PC from the bottom left hand corner of screen etc) are just not there.

Oh though the music on demand is neat, I have to reinstall my sound drivers from Creative five times plus now to listen to the tunes.

I love when every new OS is release. this always happens people moan. if u think the os should be made how each person wants it , it's never happen

as I said before, I don't understand why people are moaning about win8/Metro, MS let people try it with the win8 preview. if u didn't like win8 preview, why did they still bought it...

it's not as if MS released it without the public trying it

MS can't make everybody happy, it's impossible.. no company can

If having a power button there is so important why don't you just create a shortcut that runs shutdown from the command prompt?

Or you could just press alt + f4

Or you could just press the power button

Can't believe how many times this problem gets brought up.

And that is the problem - W8 is trying to be a phone, tablet, Desktop, and there's an old but true saying about a "Jack of all Trades". MS are hoping you will buy into WP8, Surface, Desktops with touch etc. However, many won't so they are left with something that can only really be fully utilised if you buy into the MS ecosystem. I'm unlikely to buy WP8 or a Surface Tablet as I'm happy with my iPad and iMac. I think MS should have kept the mobile side separate from the Desktop experience with only minor integration - much the same as Apple have.

yeah you do it from the bottom right now instead, its really not that different.

Take a bit of time to setup the start screen and its actually quicker than using the start menu for many things.

so what about all the people who like Metro and find it better? if MS removes it it'll make some happy others not.

as I said MS can't make everybody happy, it's impossible.. no company can

also 99% of the time your in desktop screen anyway so I don't see what all this moaning is for

your only thinking/seeing it one sided.

yeah exactly I am one of many people I know who actually prefer it, Faustus your saying things as though its the only point of view but its not, perhaps its your and maybe your friends points of view but it isn't the only one, unless you've done some sort of proper pole its just conjecture.

For all your Start8 users, I highly recommend trying out StartIsBack. It completely bypasses the Start Screen on startup (absolutely no flicker/delay), and the Start Menu looks exactly how it is in W7 including features like dragging and dropping. Overall feels better and more native than what Start8 can do (even though I like their Windows 8 skin).

Start8 nicely matches the theme of Windows 8, I don't experience any flicker/delay going to the desktop.

Though it's great that there are other options available, I'm sure in the coming months many will develop.

By your reasoning OSX could never be that good, it doesn't have a start button either! ;)
Why where does the start button come into my argument?

Given the consensus by most people that "touch" isn't really a good thing on a Desktop, then will someone please explain why they think W8 is the best thing since sliced bread?

I get the phone/tablet argument, not an issue.

So make the argument for W8 then, convince me!

So in some respects it is simply a re-naming exercise from 7 i.e. file history - not a patch on TM. With reference to full image - only supposed to be for ex W7 users who previously used it in 7.

Renamed or not, it's still there despite the fact you repeatedly claimed it wasn't. You're entitled to your opinions on File History but it sounds to me like you don't have much practical knowledge or experience of Windows 8.

Instead of labelling File History a "poor imitation" and "not a patch" on Time Machine perhaps you could give us a comparison, in your own words, of the file backup processes between the two? The more detail the better.

This is your chance to tell people exactly why Time Machine is the superior product for backing up files, and how OSX might better serve their needs in this regard.

I've read your other posts on the Surface tab hence I'm never going to convince someone like you as to why TM or OS X might be the better option. I would suggest you try both systems and feel the scales fall from your eyes. I have worked with Windows since 3.1 and have always been a fan. However, I still remain to be convinced of the merits of using a mobile UI overlaid onto a Windows Desktop. I have yet to read any replies on this forum detailing those benefits. Given your investment in the new Windows ecosystem you sound like the man for the job?
