Hard Reset (PC exclusive) - Thread

Wasn't that impressed tbh. Yes, it looks very nice, but bloody hell - talk about a corridor shooter. I'm surprised how many people like it when you're just utterly funnelled along.

Strange how large studio titles (CoD, Crysis etc), regularly get hammered for being generic shooters, yet this, with seemingly zero AI (everything just runs straight at you) seems to get a free pass on the basis it's PC exclusive that looks pretty.

Take away the graphics, and it would be nothing.

Well now thats not strictly true is it? CoD doesnt have secret areas and I dont know about you but hiding behind a poorly textured wall waiting for russian jam to fall off my face is getting pretty boring for me.

Take away the graphics here and what you have is Serious Sam in a Bladerunner setting which IMO sounds bloody brilliant. The AI in this type of game is supposed to just run at you and you just hold down the fire button. No pussy reloads, no pussy moving from cover to cover, no pussy regen health. Just you and a ****tonne of bad guys in a room and some massive guns.

No, it's 'fun' to play, the mouse controls feel prefect and I love the look/art of the environment.

On the hardest modes on this it was really fun to try and stay alive and keep dodging the enemies, in the games like cod the insta head-shots, grenades in your lap etc are a chore.
 
Serious sam was boring its just shoot loads of stuff nothing much else, if thats all this game is then yep defo not for me. Even tho i did like the blade runner setting and gfx and weapons and physics. If all i do is shoot loads of robots then pff.

Yup each to their own but I find cowering behind a wall waiting to shoot another goddamn Russian terroist because USA IZ DA BEST! pretty boring.

Considering you are 39 years old, I find your comment rather odd.

This is what it is.

An all out shooter, nothing else and does not pretend to be either.

Yes, it is "corridor" like but that alone does not make a bad game.

It does if the base mechanics are poor, this game however has a solid old school mechanic.

**** loads of bad guys
**** loads of ammo
**** loads of OTT weapons

And does not masquerade as a "serious shooter".

What a good few weeks, bring on SS3, I also recommend Nuclear Dawn too.

Just played the demo, pure mindless fun while trying to find secret areas. Demo short but sweet. Game has to be played on Insane difficulty tho. Simple gameplay doesnt mean poor gameplay. Be interesting to see what replay value this has tho.
Have too many games to get throught at the moment otherwise this would be a day one purchase for me.
 
Just completed the demo and was really surprised by the amount of enemies that come at once at the end of it. Wasn't expecting it at all! I quite like the weapon upgrade idea where you just morph one of the two main weapons into a completely different style one. I found the CLN weapon better for my style of gameplay than the other though, especially with the grenade launcher upgrade.
 
I don't think the game being short is so much a bad thing to be honest. As much as I've missed old-school PC FPS, I think I'd a get a little bored in this day and age if one dragged on for hours and hours. Hopefully the developers will release mod tools, as the engine looks absolutely incredible.
