Becuase it has 30mm of ground clearance? When you get a car you'll realise how many things on the road would upset 30mm of clearance :p

Well I think the A8 looks great Penski. Take an affordable luxobarge and freshen it up with some nice big rims, debadge, lower and polish. What more is there to want? :D

Who cares if its handling isn't top notch, or the ride quality doesn't retain the orginal waftyness? Its not about performance, its about looks*.



(*ps. its too low for a daily driver tbh)
 
I like the wheels on it but an A8 doesnt seem to look right when its that low :|

First off your A8 is Awsome imo

Secondly I've just read the complete "overclockers" thread and I have a few points I'd like to make...

1: A8s were not and never have been wallowy as standard, read any contempery road tests and they were always praised or critised (depending on reviewer) for the great roadholding at the expence of comfort (in comparison to mercedes, BMWs, Jags and Lexi of the day )

2: The last of the A8s came from the factory on 20" rims so VIPs choice are not much bigger than standard.

3: If you're in the know, the 2WD 4.2 sport is one of the best choices available, You may loose a bit of traction but you gain some power due to the lack of 4WD, running costs are less with lesss strain on the Bushes and less parts to go wrong and you also gain some nimbleness due to a severe loss of weight.

4: Audi/ VW suspension arms wear out all the time without mods and when lowered with quality dampers the strain on componants can actually be reduced by the damper doing its job properly.

5: People who drive a properly low car read the road well in advance and tend to be much safer as they are not speeding through residential areas.

These opionions are solely mine but I do have quite a bit of experiance as an Audi tech for seven years when mk1 A8s were new, I also drove loads of S8s and several modified examples of both and I would have one anyday of the week over any other luxury barge.

BTW Hard slam is superb but after driving for three years with 10mm ground clearance I've finally sucumbed to air

People with a "properly low car" are better drivers than those without a lowered car then?

It still doesn't change the fact that you simply won't be able to drive through or get to a lot of areas with something that low.

Yes the A8 has superior road holding when compared to a 7 series (it is 4WD afterall!)
Please don't fall into the trap of confusing "Roadholding" and "Handling" as they are two quite different things entirely ::)

Don't be so utterly ridiculous. Alloy wheels which require 30 profile tyres or lower are not the 'perfect' size for a large luxury saloon focused on comfort over handling.

My comment was aimed at the above quote and was supposed to highlight that out of all the "luxo barges" of that period the A8 has always had the firmist ride and was often critised for it by magazines such as Autocar etc so it wasn't "Comfort oriantated", regardless of Handling".
Where VIP has gone with his isn't as far removed had he chose to carry out the same mods to a Merc' or Jaguar for example.

Please don't twist my words I made no such claim! :( I was mearly pointing out that you have to drive very sensibly when your car is very unsensible! especialy on the U.Ks crap roads, besides Sweeping generalisations are not my thing at all!

they is three gt5 turbo's going around here lower then that :)
