hardocp 2900xt xfire review

I wouldn't believe a single word hardocp say. They could say the Earth was round and I still wouldn't believe them. They are that bias.

for me hardocp are the first place i go to for graphics card reviews as they are far more realistic as to what you are going to get from your graphics card than running 3dmark

same here, hardocp have the best reviewing method, and when they did the review of the x1900xt card i have i tend to use the exact same settings in the games they tested with since hardocp have done the hard job of messing around with settings to get the sweetspot for each card.
hardocp is the the main review site for me that has the final say in a purchasing decision.

I love how they change the settings used in the benchmarks, rendering any form of testing done utterly useless.

I never bothered to read [H] reviews, I regard the reviews as crap and most of the forum users as utter n00bs. (note, not newbs)

read further on in the review, they do an apples to apples comparrison too where no settings are changed and all cards go through the same game settings.

odd, they showed the x1950xtx to be a good card and also show the x1950pro to be a good card. can;t say thats biased.

Trimmed for clarity. Very similar, I wonder if [H] 'did' use the latest drivers?

I don't know what to make of [H] these days - they were my 'first' hardware site for a long time, but recently I've been a bit dubious of how their results have differed from other sites. Yes they've crowned ATI cards as 'the best' in the past, but with their recent-ish glowing review of the 8600GTS (seen by everywhere else as no more than average) and constant panning of the 2900XT I'm not sure who to believe any more. They are sponsored by Newegg (which they are open about), but the constant appearance of BFG products makes me think they have other sponsors as well.

Either way, there's too much conflicting information for me to be interested in a 2900 card, though that's slightly off topic.

Whether they compare with the exact same settings or not, those XFIRE scores are way to low there. The rest of the review may as well be voided to me.

The Tech Report do a pretty nice line in objective, no-nonsense reviews. Sadly their 2900xt review was done with older drivers and is unlikely to be updated.

edit - oh and to the topic at hand...Hardocp are a good site for power supply reviews, but the way they handle ones for processors/graphics cards is dubious at best.

Yer the 8600GTS review was werid for Hardocp. They said it beats the 1950pro when basically every other site say it doesnt, and is a poor replacment for the 7600gt.

 Surely that's got something to do with the way it was recorded? It sounds like a hair dryer.

It never reaches that level in games though, thats just 100% fanspeed.

Nor does the 8800's but 100% fan speed is good esp if OC'd, I set my fan to 100% for 3D, dont care about bit of noise in a 7.1 game but thats bit over the top lol.
