André Villas-Boas poised to take the reins at Tottenham Hotspur

• Portuguese to sign three-year contract at White Hart Lane
• Hurried reshaping of Spurs squad expected to follow

Tottenham Hotspur expect to unveil André Villas-Boas as their manager this week and his appointment is set to spark a frenzied period of transfer activity at White Hart Lane in preparation for the new Premier League season.

Negotiations are ongoing with Villas‑Boas and his representative but are considered close to resolution. The Portuguese is now contractually free to take up the reins at another English club following his dismissal as Chelsea manager in March. It is anticipated the 34-year-old will sign a three-year contract at Spurs and could be confirmed in position on Tuesday.

Villas-Boas's backroom team will include José Mario Rocha and Daniel Sousato, key members of his staff during his glittering season at Porto and his ill‑fated stint at Stamford Bridge, following the departures of Kevin Bond and Joe Jordan from the coaching team at Tottenham last week. The manager will arrive keen to re-establish his reputation having been dismissed by Chelsea nine months into a three-year deal with the team outside the Champions League places and the manager having met resistance in the dressing room for the changes he was attempting to impose.

There seems to be too much in this for it to just be speculation now.

"Hurried reshaping of Spurs squad expected to follow"

certainly hope that isn't true, that's what caused him problems at chelsea, overhauling a team to quickly is just asking for trouble.

He's also good at man management and tactics so it should be plain sailing. :p

He would be better off Celtic now that they have no competition it will be like his Porto season, you never know he might win the Europa league with them cos no major teams care about it. :p

I'll be gutted if he does well at Spurs because it looks like a car crash waiting to happen, I'd be bricking it if I was a Spurs fan.

Spurs would be utterly retarded to get him, as before, he's completely unproven. He won a one team league and took a solidly top 2 team to what was looking to be a unbelievably bad finish(had he stayed I have zero doubt they'd have ended up with quite a few less points than they finally did). Taking a top 2 and pushing them almost out of Europe is not someone you should be looking to bring in to a top 4 team, or a top 8 team frankly.

That's not to say he can't do well, people usually fail to recognise that a manager could win a title with one particular set of players and one particular tactic/style of management, yet another squad of players in the same league would get relegated with the same tactics/style. He might learn from his Chelsea time and not play the big man and not try and alienate the entire squad on his first week(though honest to god I have no idea how anyone would ever think that is a good idea). It's a monumental risk, I'd say he's a much bigger risk than sticking with Harry, though I don't think he has the quality to take Spurs beyond where they were, which is, before he came in a top 5 side, pushing for top 4, the team spent 200mil in that time, the league got worse, the squad improved and they were still at the same place.

Blanc has proven his ability to improve a team, win cups, keep the team in form, all the things Harry really lacks. He's not a sure fire win either, but I'd simply give Blanc a massively better chance of doing well than AVB.

I can't see Blanc ruining Spurs, I can see Spurs completely self destructing under AVB, and handing out what is rumoured to be a 4mil a year contract at a guy who has just been fired for being so ****, is just insane.

It could be a good move by Levy. However it could take a while for the players to adapt to the new coaching style. AVB seems to be the polar opposite to Harry with his ultra tactical play compared to Harry's old school methods where he basically told the players to go out and play and runabout a bit.

Levy has a long term plan, and with AVB being young and fresh I imagine the hope is for him to be around for a long time (if things work out) and take us into the new stadium. Harry was a short term fix and what we needed at the time when we were languishing at the bottom of the table in a relagation battle. Also Levy was never a fan of Harry's openness with the media. Also as a Spurs fan I can look forward to some exciting young talented signings rather than WHL being the graveyard for the over 35's who's best days are long gone, but bought because the are "Triffic" lads.

AVB is worth the risk. He did very well with Porto and things obviously didn't work out well at Chelsea. His English is better than Harry's and he's a real student of the game. People within the game have a lot of respect for him.

I hope he gets the time he needs.

Andre Villas-Boas is understood to have arrived in England ahead of signing a deal to take over as manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

The 34-year-old was sacked as manager of Chelsea just four months ago but he is now set to take charge at White Hart Lane.

Reports in Portugal and England suggest that Villas-Boas has now agreed terms on a three-year deal.

Sky Sports understands Spurs should confirm his appointment on Tuesday, after he flew into London on Monday evening.

Portuguese sources suggest that Villas-Boas would not be presented to the media until next week when Tottenham's first-team squad return for pre-season training.

It's going to be AVB then.

How many times has that happened though? he'll do well to see out his 3yr contract.

Will Levy be willing to give him time if Spurs finish outside of the Champions League? I'm expecting the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea to be a lot stronger this season they all had a poor season by their standards last season.

Will they have stronger seasons? Chelsea were shocking in the league, with and without AVB and have an ageing squad. RVP carried Arsenal last year so an injury to him could disrupt their whole season. Liverpool have also got a young, new manager. No-one is in a particularly strong position.

Chelsea have just signed one of the most promising players in the world; and are no doubt going to keep spending to improve the squad. Arsenal have signed two promising players - while Spurs have no strikers, are more than likely going to lose their best player and a manager who managed to get fired in less than half a season at Chelsea =\.
