Haswell -E Core i7-5960X, 5930K, 5820K specifications

I just hope we start getting games that use all cores properly, but I think I will be waiting for another 4 years before I change the CPU, think I can get one more GPU upgrade out of this system first and overclock to 4.3GHZ with a 1.35v overvolt.

looks like I'll be securing a nice 6 core second hand for £200 on the members market just before xmas. Not that anything ever uses all my cpu as it is. Might go upto 16gb ram though if games tend to want it later in the year though. Wildstar and watchdogs don't really flex anything besides the vram limit though at 1600p but I'm still happy with 3gb 780s.

Xmas 2015 I'll put a new processor on my wishlist and I'll get the wife a kitchenaid mixer to make me cakes with and in return I shall get something like a 5770k.

I'll probably end up with a msi

Yeah between the good cheaper boards and the £50-£100 more expensive ones there isn't usually much in it and performance is practically identical.. saying that i'll wait and see what at least a few are like.

Only feature i can see missing that would be in future boards is PCIE4, probably only make a few % difference much like from 2 -> 3 i suppose.

I wonder if the x99 boards will also support TRIM in RAID 0 by default. Do newer Intel chipsets normally do support this feature by default?

Do you think new third party CPU Heatsink and Fans will have to come out for x99 boards?

I am not too sure of the CPU Heatsink and Fan compatibility with the x99 boards and the existing top CPU Heatsink and Fans on the market right now.

It looks like we might have issues trying to fit say a Noctua NH-D14 / D15 on those boards if the layout of the ram slots are similar to the EVGA teases X99 Motherboard.

Tbh as I'm after stable and not ridiculous overclock I cba with spending ridiculous amounts on mobo. Which I haven't had a problem with before
Do I need more sata ports? No
Do iI need a start button on the board? No
Do I need fancy pants heat spreaders for show? No.. But they look nice!

As long as there's future proofing for a few years I'm happy.
I think a lot of the more expensive boards are for benchers. I'm more a functional person

I don't really see that I'll need more for a long long time after this.
Maybe never if games etc will be streamed over browser

Really I don't need more than what I have as it is only a bit of time on cpu intensive loop code and video transcoding. Games still seem gpu limited when you have a half decent cpu

But seeing as I haven't really topped out my i7920 I expect this chip to last longer/just as long

I'm gambling on no.
I'm gonna risk getting a h100i soon

I have just been reading up about support for TRIM in RAID 0 by default
on the x99 boards and it seems they will also support this feature natively
without having to mod the board BIOS or Intel option ROM.

Good news for those of us that combine 2 or more SSDs in RAID0 mode.

I have just sent Noctua support an email asking them if their current top
CPU coolers are compatible with X99 chipset LGA 2011-3 socket platform
and if not, do they plan to release parts for them to make them compatible.

I will let you guys know what they say once they respond to the email.

Well i would love rampage V gene for myself as i am singe gpu person i dont need en useless pcie slots :P

Here is the response I got from Noctua about their CPU cooler compatibility with the X99 chipset LGA 2011-3 socket platform.

Dear Mr. XXXXX,

thanks for contacting Noctua and for your interest in our products.

Since the basic socket design apart from the pins remain unchanged, there is no need for a new mounting kit. You will be able to use a NH-D14 or NH-D15 on LGA2011-3 as well.

Kind regards,
Andreas Karner
Noctua support team

Damn, I forgot to ask them about the ram slot compatibility
with the X99 boards and their CPU coolers.

Even if their NH-D14 or NH-D15 doesn't need a new mounting
kit to make them compatible with the X99 boards, the big
heatsinks on these might get in the road of some of the
ram slots on each side of the CPU socket.

I hope this isn't the case. I guess we will find out soon enough.
