***Haswell -E Owners Thread***

You won't regret it.

Mine (5930k on Asuc X99-S) is finally working after a couple of misfires. Loving the beast. Getting 19426 on Firestrike (http://www.3dmark.com/fs/3241453).

Heya .. what were the misfires you had ? reason is I'm just in the process of returning an EVGA board and looking towards this or the x99 deluxe and don't want more issues already been over a week without my PC :(

Well, mine was a epic tale of woe that seems to be unique. So, take what I say with that in mind - odds are you will not encounter the same issues.

I received my first Asus X99-S with the Corsair Vengeance 2666 16gb and the 5930k. Set it all up and booted up. Everything hunky dory, except BIOS only reporting 2 sticks of ram. Tried a number of things to fix that which all culminated in deciding that I needed to re-install windows.

Re-installed windows and it got to the point where you set it all up (you know, choose the theme, add the default account etc) and the mouse and keyboard stopped responding. No USB ports allowed them to work. No mouse or keyboard combination worked. So had to abandon that install and attempt it again. Obviously, the disk I used was now locked so had to use a new one. Started the install process and after the first reboot, nothing came up. System wouldn't even POST.

Started to diagnose that, right to the point of actually buying a new PSU to remove that possibility. All to no avail. So RMA'd the CPU and Mobo (I was convinced that the RAM was fine, maybe it wasn't...).

A week later and, with the mobo determined to be the DOA component, had new mobo and original 5930k returned. Built the system and then the system wouldn't POST at all (but the lights all came on). Did the same set of triage to figure out the problems and it pointed at the mobo again. This time I RMA'd the whole lot, mobo, cpu and RAM, got them all back, built the system, installed windows and everything it now working perfectly!

...

Well, apart from the mouse randomly stopping working ... and the screen sometimes flickering :)

Total time from first purchase to working system == 6 weeks :(

I wouldn't be worried (hopefully, others who've had good experiences can chime in here). Mine was an extreme situation - lots of bad luck, really. Many have had theirs up and running first time and doing some great overclocks as well.

Question:

From a pure gaming perspective, is there any point getting a Haswell-E for anything less than Tri-fire or 3x SLI?

I understand the limitations of Haswell from a PCI lanes perspective, but in all the benchmarks I've seen for games, inc those that seemingly use multi-core processors (BF4, Crysis 3 etc) there's been no benefit with the Haswell-E processors.

What I suppose I'm getting at is, considering Skylake will have DDR4 Ram - If you had SLI/Crossfire or less and only really play games, the 5930k or 5960x Haswell-E are pretty much pointless, right? You either get a Haswell now or wait for Skylake.

If you have 3 cards in SLI/CF then yeah, 5930K and 5960X are the better chips to go for, 2 or less cards and the 5820K is fine. :)

The reason i recommend x99 to people is that for the same money as a 1150/1155 socket system, you can get a full x99 setup.

If you have a 4770K/4790K then moving to x99 is pointless as you'll see little to no benefit in games.

People buying brand new who don't have a system already that doesn't have an i7, i would recommend x99 as it is newer technology. :)

^^ This.

My case seems to have been delayed :( hopefully the rest should be here today :) I've done some benchies with my 2500k at stock and at 4.4 (which I'll hopefully get from my 5820k)

CPU Performance Tests
Cinebench
Unigine Valley
Mediacoder x64

Power from wall
Wattage at 3.3 idle / load
Wattage at 4.4 idle / load

h100 performance
Temps at 3.3 min / max
Temps at 4.4 min / max

Can't wait to build :)

Had my 5930k(Asus X99-PRO) for a week now & I have a question regarding the turbo.
I'm aware that the Turbo is applied when two cores are being used but is there a bios setting that forces Turbo mode on all cores?

It's more a case of a quick & dirty performance boost before I decide to clock this baby properly.

4.3 @ 1.3 passed max temps 67
103 bclk x 43 = 4429 didn't make it to desktop
4.5 @ 1.35 = 2mins of stress before bsod (code 124)
4.4 @ 1.4 passed temps maxed at 77.

Only playing with the multi, vcore and a teensy run on the bclk. Need more time to explore!
