***Haswell -E Owners Thread***

I have an odd thing with mine, where it just gets stuck on my Asus boot screen now and again, maybe 1 out of 10 boots, although sometimes it will happen a few times in row. No error message, just gets stuck on the Asus logo. Is this likely to be due to it not liking the OC, or something else?

Still a lot of bugs in the Haswell-E bios and they do not seem to be in a rush to fix the issues.

Does it say Overclocking failed the next time you boot up? I had those problems when I ran using XMP profile timings.

Mine did this because it loses the keyboard. Just hangs forever
Plugging it into one of the USB 2 ports helped (the two at the side of the Ethernet socket)

No, it does not say that. I have had that before, when I first OC'd and was messing around with settings, but it doesn't say that anymore. Sometimes I get a 'repair' message come up ( i thnk it says diagnostic repair or something like that, but even that just hangs), but that's almost like a windows thing. On very rare occasions it's booted up and said Windows error of some sort or another, but I restart and it's fine. I have XMP on in the Bios, not sure if that should be on or not, but I've had the same problem either way. This whole X99 thing does seem flaky. My old i5 2500k Z68 system was rock solid, never ever failed to boot or had any issues like X99 seems to have.

My keyboard stops working now and again, in windows. Although since the latest bios it has happened less frequently. I didn't think the board had any USB 2.0 ports as they are all blue, but I've just checked the menu and I see those two you mention are USB 2.0.

My cpu is going back....I've had enough of it, arranged collection with dhl today for pickup on Monday. I really have nothing to lose, so glad I purchased the tuning plan.

If you have the tuning plan. I bought the tuning plan when I got the 5820k....Got in touch with Intel a couple of days ago, gave them the plan ref. # and they authorized the rma. I arranged dhl pickup on their account today so its cost me nothing.

Ah OK... I see on the FAQ on the Intel site that you can buy the plan retroactively, up to a year after you've bought your CPU.

I am not sure if my CPU is actually the issue or not though. I have it at 4.4 (which in and of itself isn't bad by most accounts, not great, but could be worse)... I never get any error messages pointing to the overclock failing or anything like that, but my PC will fail to boot now and again, just getting stuck on the Asus logo. This will sometimes occur several times in a row before it boots properly. I've also had a 'diagnostic repair' message come up. I have no idea if this is just X99 bugs, or a Windows installation fault, or if it is indeed a dodgy CPU?!

Yeah, I'd have been happy with 4.4 but its been a hassle just to get it stable at 4 and considering the overclocks most get without any effort its just worth rolling the dice and trying another.

Your fault is a bit odd, but could be a bug of the bios on the board !?

It does seem as though you have a bad chip if it won't even remain stable at 4. I thought the BIOS too, but it's happening on the latest one as it did on the last. Something odd definitely going on.

Prob the worst chip ever, its stable at 4...but despite some assistance from here it will not even load windows >4.2.

5960x owner here . struggling to get any thing more than 4.0ghz on first 2 cores .

Alieneware not giving anything away and also not getting any joy in getting any info from Alienware forums or Dell forums . in bios it has 2 overclock profiles . number 1 is set at 37 37 35 35 35 35 35 35 . number 2 profile is set at 40 40 38 38 38 38 38 38 38 38 .

when i run prime95 and intel boost monitor im only getting 3.8ghz , if i o to prime 95 options from task manager and set the CPU's to just 1 core i get a boost of 3.9ghz .

if i go above 4ghz on first 2 cores either in bios or command center on overclck software it just bsods .I can rund all cores at 4.0ghz in benchs but as soon as i run prime95 it also bsods . seems they dont want me overclocking this system beyond there profiles . but they advertise it as for ENTHUSIASTS and give you overclocking software to go beyond the factory overclock .

Well first off, don't use Prime 95... it's not good for these chips. Second, it does sound like you have a bad chip like Ketma. 4 is pretty bad, especially for a 5960X. I've seen plenty of people hitting 4.6-7 on these. I assume you've tinkered with the BIOS and voltages? What motherboard is it?

I have an MSI SLI Plus board and trying to get to 4.6ghz stable. It's fine at 4.5ghz.

I am at 1.282v and this time I have tried the cache at 3.5ghz. Is the cache voltage the ring voltage? It's currently set to auto. What value is typical?

Im now using OCCT 4.4.1 , no idea what im looking at really . but my max volts on 4.ghz by looking at this is 1.05v . and the motherboard is generic and i think they are made by FOXCON .

I can't remember now, but what I did was use the auto overclock feature to 4.3 GHz on the Gigabyte Gaming 5 motherboard, then changed the multiplier to 46 and the voltage to 1.265V. I didn't touch the other values... I'll have a look next time I reboot.

I tried 4.7 GHz all the way up to 1.3V but it wasn't prime95 stable.

In windows or in the bios?

Combat fighter please can you take a screen shot or photo of your settings li can't get mine to boot with ram at 2800mhz it's rated speed and it's doing my head in...
