Have i made a mistake ?

Enjoy your present, Just means you'll be-able to hit the ground running on either side of the fence when the future AAA titles are released. There are great game on both consoles right now. Drake isn't far off, Ratchet and clank is fantastic, Games coming in the future look great too. It means while certain fanboys are stuck with their 1 platform playing some of the great games! You will have 2 platforms and be able to play most of the great games. Now you just need a Wii and your set to play every great game. :p

Dont think i'll be buying a wii somehow.... maybe when they are £50. Plus, they are more expensive then PS3's in some shops at the moment

And if you're not going to keep it I assume you're going to sell it at a loss? After your mum went out and spent her hard earned money buying it for you?

Shouldn't you have thought of all this before making her buy it?

- Will dynasty warriors 6 be out on 360 aswell as PS3 ? Love this game.
Most likely.
- Can you private chat at all ?
On the PS3? I believe you can, however this is only when both users are on the XMB and not in game. On the Xbox360 you can private chat either in game or on the dashboard. The chat runs through the OS that runs at all time in the background, as it's full accessible at all times you can swap between game chat or 4 private chat rooms.
- I guess there is a friends list, what does it show. What game they are playing, etc.
On the PS3 you can see what game they are playing or send messages whilst in the XMB only. In game you don't have access to any of these options, however the appropriate game will see your friends list.
On the Xbox360 you can see what games they are playing, send messages, voice chat, game invite, video chat, compare games and compare achievements from either the dashboard or in-game.
- Do all games have chat in ?
Not on the PS3 I don't believe.
On the Xbox360 all games have chat in online.

Sorry for the thread rivival, but i thought it would be pointless making another.

Thanks for all the advice, just a few more questions though.

Thanks :) Just checking it's worth me keeping it, could use the money for other things. I really want metal gear solid, gran turismo, final fantasy, rachet& clank, jak & daxter, bladestorm, etc.

Yes DW6 is out on the 360
You can private chat only in the xmb as such, you can also video chat using the PS eye or other webcams (not 100% sure about the others). When home is released in the spring you will be able to private chat in the comfort of your own "home" watch videos show photos etc, or just go and play pool, bowling and chat with others either friends or just people wandering around.
The friends list shows what they are currently doing/ game playing apart from if there playing a PS2 game. You can message them, but they will have to leave game to answer, this is another feature fixed when home is released.
Most new games that have online multiplayer ie not launch titles ( even though most are now patched to support it) have chat, it is either open mic or PTT style. Depending on the games you play will depend on how much "chat" is going on normally in the team games ie warhawk there can be a lot of chat going on, in COD4 its hard to shut some people up!
The only way youre going to play those games is with a PS3, so if want to play em, best you keep it.

I reckon it wont belong before Sony release an update that will allow XMB to be accessed in game, allowing the full messaging features to be utilized.

We reckoned it wouldn't be long over 12 months ago. Nor do they have an excuse for it not to have been in there in the first place.

I reckon it won't happen now till Home is released. If it was doable without the OS using up too much memory it would have appeared in the pre christmas 2.0 update (imo). From this, I conclude there is some sort of techhie issue they are struggling with and they would probably rather give up and just implement it directly into Home.

Annoyingly the Home Beta is well behind schedule, it was supposed to become an Open Beta before end of 2007 and that has not happened yet.

They don't need to provide you with an excuse/reason. Just because a feature is in one console does not mean it HAS to be in it's rival system. Also the console has only just hit it's 12 month anniversary.

It's an awesome bit of kit - it does offer more than the 360, especially if you a little geeky and fancy a bit of linux on there!

I'd say it's exactly the right time to be getting one.
