Have the money for 5090 but...

Don't understand the angry replies I genuinely posted for advice.
Genuine advice, no don't do it. A house + £115k is very nice, and nothing to be sniffed at, but if you view it as 'money to burn' then you won't make the most of it and will get through it very quickly.

Be sensible - invest it, save it, and spend in moderation on things that you'll actually get use out of. You'll actually appreciate it more this way too.

In 5 years time, you'll have a 5 year old card. If you're happy with 5 year old performance, then just buy a 5 year old card.
And at 5 years old driver updates tend to dry up, and architectures move on significantly that new games might not run anyway.

Weirdest brag ever, this is OcUK, where there are actual millionaires on here

If you're intent on wasting spending that money, then sure, do it. The 5090 will retain value for very long time, you might not lose anything for the first 12 months.

In three years time, it could still be worth 50-60% of original price.

Just be sure to get all new peripherals (mouse, keyboard, monitor/TV, headphones/speakers) as well.

Look into hiring an advisor for your new wealth, rather than peeing it down the drain with highly depreciating purchases.

Don't buy new computer hardware you don't need, especially don't buy a new car. If you must buy anything put it on property, land or housing. Not flats, they're a nightmare to shift and tend to come with too many issues.

115k is a sweet spot right now between being utterly worthless if you want to mess around or potentially life changing if you're smart.

Be smart.

Absolutely buy yourself something nice with your inheritance.

For someone who describes themselves as a casual gamer buy yourself a whole new set up for the price of the 5090 and do something productive with the rest.

That cards rumoured to cost £2.5k you can get a 9800x3d with 4080 super for that now.

Dont blow £5k on a set up unless it’s your passion.

This is the truth. £115k can be blown in no time if you are not used to dealing with that level of cash and then you're back to square one.

However, the OP doesn't seem too bothered about being on the cutting edge, just wants something to last a long time. In which case he wants whatever has the most vram, so 5090 may well be the correct choice if the rumoured 32GB vram is true.

While the 5090 performance will most likely be eclipsed in 3-4 years, it will still play most games at good framerates for many years longer than that.

Go for it fella!

(and get a better monitor as well)
