Have you swapped your MSI 7950?

So, my card running at 1250 core OC returning vrm temps of 65\66c, is that too hot because I've read of vrms getting to 125c, now that is what I would call hot. I would like to know what the cards you mentioned, was it Msi and His, vrm temps are when running OC at 1250 core.:)

Hi guys,

So sorry for the lack of clear response. We've had a hell of a time trying to narrow down the issues involved and identify the cause.

firstly, let me just clarify something. The V2 models are based on 7970 PCB/GPU, hence they will run hoter than the V1 models that have been in the channel and in the reviews. That said, the differences reported in this thread are unacceptable, our testing suggests 5C and 3% fan increase in Furmark when V1 & V2 are tested side by side. I've included our data below.

We are 99% sure that the thermal grease application is to blame and will be happy to provide a aid and warranty cover to anyone who wishes to reapply the grease themselves.

The reason for the delayed response is that found it impossible to accurately identify the affected cards. Many hundreds of cards went to OcUK who booked them in using the same stock code as the V1. We were left with a needle and haystack situation.

We will offer OcUK every possible support with this issue. Please feel free to contact me via trust if you have any questions.

Tahiti Pro Tahiti Pro H
Idle 31℃ 35℃
fan duty 30% 30%
FurMark 65℃ 70℃
fan duty 49% 52%
Total board Voltage 225W 260W
Fan Duty: 40℃--30% ; 70℃--50% ; 90℃--100%

What are the temps with re-applied thermal compound?

to answer the questions above:

The temps shown in the data are from non-affected cards

Any non-metallic thermal grease - we can provide some if you wish

to my knowledge only one batch, all of which were shipped to OcUK :(

So good working MSI should have temps of around 28-32 idle and 59-61c load?

This is why you should always buy from a reputable re/e-tailer like OcUK. Great customer support.

Yep, never had any problems, always get my answear same day or next day morning.
I'm very happy with ocuk, send the card to MSI they will re apply thermal compound for you. If you do it your self you lose warranty...

Are these cards safe to order now e.g. Is this problem now fixed and do ocuk now have a new batch of non faulty cards?(I already had two out of the faulty batch which I had to return due to noise/heat/artificing)
Or is it still a stay away and get either a wf or iceQ card?

Even what MSI says not fault is like a refrence card temps...
I would go for gigabyte or his.

IMO His iceq £= Performance ratio best :D

Stay away, get the WF3 7950, beast of a card, dont listen to IC3 and tommybhoy they must have shares in HIS, just kidding guys! LoL.:D

Nope I dont work for any manufactures...
HIS and Gigabyte are good cards, gigabyte is a worse clocker in vram and his has 7970 pcb which is a good thing.
Both are great cards go for the cheaper card.

ScottiB, I know you suppose to say that MSI is best and that your 7950 is best overclocker but seriously it is a lie when it says on the package that its 17c cooler and quieter when its not...I mean the none faulty cards. The temps are same as on 7950 refrence card...

You must be a mind reader! I've ordered the wf3 and should arrive tomorrow will let you know how I get on with it.

Should stop talking about it in here though due to this being the Msi thread!

Doesnt matter, I'm thinking of changing the title because theres lots of info about different things not just the MSI 7950 :D
Good buy, make sure to post a picture of fitted card in your case as well ;]

Just researched the 7870 LE, it seems like a good bang for buck.
Maybe they will relase 7950 LE (Probably not)

Has anyone ordered one of these cards since OcUK confirmed they'd had a fresh batch of these? any issues with it?

About to order one but don't want to end up with a bad card.

I would just skip MSI on 7950 as they wanted to use 7970 pcb, scoti said something.
Go for Gigabyte or HIS, both great choices.
