Hayfever - Thread

I usually don't suffer this late in the year, but yesterday was awful.

The worst symptom for me, by far, is that itching feeling you get in the back of your throat. I get the irresistible urge to push my tongue up towards the back of the roof of my mouth to alleviate it, but it only makes it worse, then you get a weird pressure in your sinuses and ears. Anyone else suffer this? It's kind of hard to explain, but it's bloody awful :(

Do you use the nasal sprays if so give them up, it's one of the side effects and why I don't use them.

I've always been 'prone' to nosebleeds and nasal sprays definitely make them worse, but I have found nasal sprays work best for me. I have more recently found that spraying in my nose and not sniffing it up has helped no end, if that makes sense.

Yes I get that, it's horrible.

I thought it was just me!

Sitting there looking like a right weirdo rubbing my tongue on the roof of my mouth trying to alleviate it.

Reverted to Cetirizine this year but have currently got one single itchy eye which I haven't had for years

Not sure if I suffer hayfever, but I have the occasional day where I wake up feeling like I have the worst cold. Eyes watering, can't stop sneezing, itchy throat, extreme fatigue. Lasts the whole day and then the next I'm back to normal. It's definitely an allergy but it happens rarely and without any obvious trigger.

Little one (nearly 4) came back from nursery the other day with both eyes badly swollen. Rubbing his eyes and nose a lot, so doctors have prescribed Cetirizine. Hope it's not something he'll get regularly .

Thought I'd chime in to share that I have been dying as well. I take loritadine daily but I'm not certain of how much it helps. I tried ghetto (without neti pot) nasal irrigation this morning and it worked well, I may buy a neti pot to make it easier. I wasn't aware of acrivastine until reading some of this thread, so I may try those.

I spoke too soon. It's kicked in flat out today. Nose is itching like a mofo.

Eyes are fine though. (Saying that, they'll probably start tomorrow)

I wonder what it is that's kicked mine off. Literally started today.

Been suffering on and off since March.

Had been taking Cetrizine 1 a-day but it makes me really drowsy and aggressive...
Loratadine I ran out of but it had a similar effect if I remember.
Have been popping Chlorpheniramine maleate every 4 hours for over the weekend but it doesn't really touch the sides.
Beconase purchased yesterday but it doesn't really work that well.

I really believe that lifelong hayfever sufferers should have a medical exemption so that we don't have to pay for stronger treatments.

I've also been experiencing heat rash and prickly heat over the last few years... My body hates me.

I used to really suffer but as I have got older it seems to have eased

no need for tablets these days and use beconase when I get up and when I go to sleep, no need for it during the rest of the day

This happened to me when I was in my 30's. Primary school to then was horrendous and then all of a sudden it just went (Used to have 12 x desensitising injections every year from age 7 until age 16)

Unfortunately it does seem to be still slightly present again but it is more of an exception that I need tablets rather than the two (or three) daily that I needed to keep it from making me rip my own eyes out. This was back in the day when we had Triludan which apart from being rubbish was also potentially fatal if you took too much and ate grapefruit :-/
