Hayfever - Thread

Damn, looks like it's not working for me then, are you on one a day?

I take mine at 7am and the sneezing is back by 5

That was the issue I had with Fexo. It works, but not for long enough.

Been a really bad few days for me with the heat. The fact all the sniffing causes me to cough a lot is annoying too.

I've actually found the most effective weapon I have is to keep sucking on Halls extra strong menthol sweets as they do a half decent job of keeping my nose clear.

My hayfever started violently again recently, maybe I hit a personal best with 18 straight sneezes in 3 minute allergy attack this morning.

Anyhow I have moved to Fexo tabs from flebay 180mg tabs from Aussie, am having the same type of effects as you guys even after 4-5 days its kinda iffy and not fully working. It says take once a day, but it feels like the tab either kicks in or does not or when it does it works for 4 or 7 hrs its a weird tablet.

Not sure why so many said Fexo was one of the best tabs going, acrivastine or benadryl relief pricey tabs are still 4-6hrs (packet says last 8hrs!) but they are better working then fex for me, but so far the classic generic green box cetrizines are working for at least 7-12hrs.

I read one guy said he takes on cetrinzine at evening before bed and one in morning like a religion. I think allergy sufferers abandoned the conditions of medicines since most tablets are not as effective.

Gonna try and get an air con unit and few gadets to attempt to make this spring/summer better !

Having been a hay fever sufferer for 30 years I still don't know if any of the remedies have ever worked. The only thing that helps is sitting in a dark room, a shower and putting a cold damp cloth over my forehead. Oh and never ever going in a flower shop.

this, the best way to relieve symptoms is staying cool, as soon as i warm up my nose is a waterfall and tablets do nothing.

Try "Fexofenadine Hydrochloride 120mb" tablets,I was the same nothing helped until these tablets but you can only get them on prescription.

easy enough to get prescribed online though, if you cnat be bothered going to gp.
there was one in the 90s that worked amazingly, but they banned it due to heart issues with some people. I think it might have been related to fexofenadine.

I just typed TELFAST FEXOFENADINE 180MG into flebay and got the 100 tabs for 25 quid delivered in about a week and bit.

Rubbish tabs tbh, tried it for 2 weeks now and its hit and miss gonna go back to cetrizine I think, cheaper and more effective (when it works!) or ill go back to acrivastine from boots.

Gotta find what works best for yourself really.

Mine was really bad today, i took cetrizine hydrochloride 10mg, took about 2 hours to kick in. I'll take 2 tomorrow morning and hope they last the day.

Is the injection remedy still an option? I'll pay whatever is needed even if i need it once a year.

Had it for 20 years myself, but yeah no real solid cures but you do have to change things around much to get the right groove going.

Diet is a big one, plenty of trigger foods but takes much time so most look for the quicker fix and who exactly wants to stop eating chocolate and milk !

I have recently tried half freshly squeezed lemon juice with warm water each morning, top air purifier (from fellows), allergy reliever (2 red emitting probes in nose) and its done nothing much !

Exercise is a big one, not doing it much myself but I think that could be a good one. I have closed all windows/vents and doors and reduced vac cleaning more which seemed to help a bit more. But like flubble said keeping yourself cool and calm helps, I think sticking tissue, fingers up the itchy nose only flare up the
over sensitive nostrils. Even shaving the noise hairs can reduce pollen from being breathed in more. Keeping the air and room temp around you good (humidity) should help but even with a top end air purifier its not helped myself oddly.

Otherwise, I have to alternate my hayfever tablets, sometimes going from cetirizine to loratadine, recently tried fex tabs to find one that works to make life
half as enjoyable. Thinking of going back to cetirizines, good luck !

injection stuff is hit and miss, I heard some got worse results from it also ie rashes and worse allergies. But its best to get doc advice, these are just things you hear around the net.

Yeah it can take 2 hrs to kick in at times, but if it works then you should get a good 50-70% reduction in symptoms with any luck.
Taking another 2 in the morning sounds bit too many, usually its one tablet each day. I know some say one morning and one before bed works well but check with your gp and instructions before risking anything!

Not had anything start yet, last year wasn't too bad, but previous years were very annoying.

I can't remember when mine starts exactly though, I have a feeling I have it all throughout may though, and then 2-4 weeks either side.

Need to hold out for a couple more weeks until my prescription nasal spray comes. Already feeling it coming though which is not good lol

Does that stuff actually work for yourself? is your allergy mild or strong ?

Nasal spray just gives me sneezing fits and makes my nose itchier and far worse, tried 3 different top brand sprays also but not the steroid based ones.

My Hay fever was brought on by another medicine I have that messes with the Histamine receptors in my body. I never had Hayfever before I started taking that but I do get it quite bad (at least I think so lol). The spray gets rid of nearly all of it and is called Nasonex which I think is indeed a Steroid based one. I also buy Omicron eye drops too as they can still get itchy here and there but both of those combined sort it for me.

Nice info thanks, always wanted to try a steroid based spray, is that Nasonex available to buy somewhere?

Also is Nasonex one of those nasal sprays that can become addictive ? Ie it loosens up and makes your nose better but then when you stop it your nose simply closes!

I am weary of nasal decongestant sprays and even eye drops since I have noticed they replace and become the norm too quickly and coming off them is tricky afterwards.

Yes, you can indeed get rebound congestion with Nasonex. I suffer from perennial rhinitis, and had this prescribed for me. One use does sort me out for a while allowing me to breath at night through one of my nostrils, but I don't use it often. I just suffer and continue through my blocked nose although I should get it sorted. I have private health care through work but don't know if there is anything they can actually do to cure it.

thx for the reply, I too have perennial rhinitis and similar situation as yourself, its sad to hear that you get the same rebound congestion effect associated with these nasal sprays, let alone the steroid type ones. I too have issues where its one nose passage blocked or the other !

Do you think a surgery would fix this issue? maybe its related to a deviated septum am not sure, I have had a blocked nose effect for 20 years but just lived with it since its been manageable most of the time.
