Hazro HZ30W - Strengths and weaknesses

Hi there

I have a DELL 3007WFP which I think is awsome and having seen this Hazro I know it has the same panel but believe its the HC version as colours and brightness are both better on the Hazro.

In regards to resolution issues never had an issue with Hazro or DELL, 2560x1200 works in both windows and games, but again I am on Vista.

To put it bluntly your basically getting a DELL 3007WFP-HC in a fancy aluminum finish for half the price.

However be warned its a one of deal, once sold they are gone, we got these in for an XMAS deal and Hazro can no longer get these panels any more and due to exchange rate dropping massively from when we originally put this order in our re-buy has increased by nearly £200 so yes they are indeed a cracking bargain. :)

Gibbo,

Does that mean after these ones that are in stock on the site are sold out, that`s it, we won`t be able to buy them on OcUK anymore?

It's just, i`m not due to buy my new system until early next year - currently using an old Pentium 4 socket 478, AGP graphics card system right now, and unforchenitly, my AGP grapics card is not Dual-Link DVI compatible, so I don`t think this screen will work with it.

Hi there

Nope, the next ones use the panel from the 3008WFP and those are considerably more expensive.

sylver, im in the same boat as you, also with an old agp system and not sure if the card has got dual-link.
I should recieve my screen tomorrow, so i'll be posting on it then.

As there going to be using the same panel as 3008WFP, won't that mean possible higher response time and input lag, same as the 3008WFP screens?

If its a NVIDIA AGP card, then it`ll probably won`t be dual-link capable.

I`m using a NVIDIA GEFORCE 6800 Ultra 256MB DDR3, which has DUAL DVI ports, but isn`t dual-link compatible..

i was afraid of that, i have an asus v9999ge, which is a geforce 6800/6800gt hybrid.
so i prolly wont be running native untill i upgrade.

I`m sure NVIDIA did release some AGP cards higher than 6800, that did have full dual-link compatibility, but they are hard to find now.

Thanks for the mini-review Duff-Man :D

Looks like I'll be getting one of these bad boys when I come to upgrading next year (unless they release a new one before then) :D

Is that really important though?

Im just trying to justify the extra £££ compared to a 26" version.

Yes, it was one of the reasons why I made the difficult decision to return mine for a refund and get the HP. No backlight causes a host of problems, bad black level, excess heat in the panel (to the point where my eyes were drying out after a couple of hours) and possibly premature aging/death of the panel.

I think the main justification for the extra money is the extra real estate. With the 30" monitor you're looking at 4.1M pixels, while you're getting 'only' 2.3M pixels with the 26".

I've never actually used a 24" or 26" hazro, but according to the review on TFT central, the main difference between the two is the black level. The HZ30W has a black-point of 0.24, while the HZ26Wi comes in at 0.58. For me this is the key difference. Black level is a weakness of all IPS screens, and I'm not sure I'd want it any worse than this screen. Although the HZ30W is good enough for me, this is the one area in which my old TN panel was slightly better.

The difference between the 26 and the 30 is 'only' £150 anyway.

If the Hazro is so good why did you return it back for a refund?

Do you know if games would still look ok if they are run at 1920 x 1200 on this panel? Thats why I cant make my mind up to go 30" or go 26"

I've tried games at 1920*1200, and to me they look a bit 'blurred out' when scaled up to full screen. The couple of games that I can't handle at full res, I've just been running without scaling. This isn't ideal, but the active screen size is still around the same as a 23" screen.

And also can you just put my mind at rest with the mouse lag, I know this is ment to be uber low. Just wanted you to clarify! :D

No mouse lag or any kind of input lag whatsoever :)

This is something I'm especially sensitive to, so I was glad to see it living up to its billing :)

Hi there

Fully agreed the 30" is a far better monitor and trust me once you have used a 30" monitor you won't want to use anything smaller.

2560x1600 resolution is a joy to use and delivery such a crisp and sharp image and they do downscale pretty well as I do run mine from time to time in windows at 1920x1200 and its fine but admittedly 2560x1600 is sharper.

For games lower resolutions look fine.

I see it as an easy option and OcUK has made a high quality 30" display affordable to a much wider audience now. :)
