Hazro series - HZ30Wi, HZ30WiQ, HZ27WA, HZ27WB & HZ27WC

has anyone tried connecting a ps3 or MBP to the WD via HDMI?

I can't get the audio to go thru, on my ps3 it says that the device does not support audio?

I never had any problems using Audio over HDMI on my WD with my laptop (MSI GX640). So perhaps give Windows a try if you have it on your Mac.

Is that supposed to be a joke? It's pot luck if
your display will support hdcp or not?
You're making a problem out of nothing. It's not like they ever claimed to have DHCP on their site or in the manual. If you get it, it's a nice free bonus.

If you don't get it.. well that's hardly a problem now is it? The WC only takes dual-link DVI as its input, the only devices using that are PCs and there is a free workaround for that.
Not sure about Mac/Linux solutions

Is there going to be a new version of these monitors some time in the near future?

I assume you read hazros recent update on upcoming monitors ...

"This is our first day back since we broke up before Xmas so Happy New Year to everyone. We've been monitoring this thread and have some updates on existing and new models. The 27" LED models are under review and a decision will be made this month on what can be done to eliminate dust altogether. Despite their popularity, it is looking increasingly likely that we'll have to drop all glass models and stick to non-glass. The glass models may still be around for our B2B sales. More to follow on this.

Also, whilst the 27" LEDs don't officially support HDCP (due to high royalty fees), most new batches shouldn't have a problem playing Blu-rays (although, we can't guarantee this for all units). User feedback on this will be appreciated.

OCUK will take delivery of our new 30" models in the next week or so. The model number is HZ30WiE and features a new Aluminium bezel with Steel back and a fully adjustable stand. The panel is 10bit Ultra Wide Gamut capable of 1.07billion Colors. Input is limited to Dual Link DVI and we've chosen an expensive external adapter over internal PSUs due to heat and high pitched noise issues (which have plagued other branded 30" displays). Price is to be set by OCUK but it will be £750~£800 delivered.

The same model is available in a 8bit version (Wide Gamut with 16.7million Colors) which will be available directly from us at a price of £650~£700. This has a model number of HZ30WiF.

The HZ27WB has been revised and now comes in the same enclosure as the HZ27WC Non-Glass. We had to do this to lower costs as encapsulating this into a metal enclosure was too high. Price will be around 10% cheaper than the HZ27WC. The ETA is around 6 weeks on this. This is a lot of monitor for the price (WQHD resolution 10bit Wide Gamut CCFL panel capable of 1.07 billion Colors).

A 27" LED 3D monitor is also available (full HD) and again, shares the same enclosure as the HZ27WC. We've had this model for over 6 months but never got round to launching it. This will be available in 6 weeks (this is a non 'Nvidia 3D Ready' monitor aimed at the multimedia market). As always, price will be appealing.

That's not really a newer version of the same monitor though. The 30" will be 2560x1600. And the WB will use a horrible matte AG coating like the dells.

Is there anything in the market that has 40 inch 2560x1440/1600 res? I'm currently on a 32 LG TV at 1080p and looking to go bigger with a higher res. Are Hazro planning bigger displays?

is this the reason why my unit will only display video but not audio via HDMI from my ps3?

When I bought my 2407 from ocuk it didn't have hdcp advertised. Still had it and I only realised this months later when I used it for a ps3. The dell 3007 only had a dl-dvi input, again had hdcp so doesn't need some extra anti-copyright software, it just works.
If they have moved on to 'some may have hdcp some may not who knows what you'll get' then that's not really much on an improvement.

If hazro wanted to cut costs they could get rid of the completely useless built in speakers, volume circuitry and audio cable. Possibly even used that money for a hdcp licence.
Sell the non-glass version as clearly the glass is not worth the gamble or pain if it is bad. Boom. Easily the most cost effective 27" panel out there trusting you don't want a million inputs or a lower res 3d.

They already announced they got rid of the glass version to streamline the production line (along with using the same casing for the HZ27WB).
The speakers for the WC are indeed quite useless but in the WD they're a good selling point (sound over HDMI for the consoles).

No idea how Hazro makes the monitors but I can imagine that it's more cost effective to simply use the same parts for both the WC and WD than to have a model with audio and one without audio. Then again the HDCP support is there in the HZ27WD as well so that logic doesn't always apply.

I simply cannot find any fault with not having HDCP support as long as they're not advertising with it. If you compare the specs of the WD/WC on their site it becomes obvious as well as the WD is advertised as supporting it.

Built in speakers cost very little - HDCP annual + per model + per unit licensing costs significantly more. The enclosure has space for built-in speakers and so to not include them would look 'weird'. Modifying the plastic mold at this stage would require a massive 're-'investment which, on a product that has only a 12 months shelf-life, wouldn't be justified. Besides, the 5W speakers are a significant improvement on the usual 2W found on other monitors. Nobody serious about audio quality would ever use them but they're there - if nothing else, as backups. The built-in amp only outputs 7W so its probably best to use the M/B outputs or purchase a separate audio card altogether.

I can't get the speakers to output anything on my WD. As far as I can tell I've done everything I need to (plugged in an HDMI source - Galaxy Note via MHL adapter - and turned up the volume everywhere I can find one). Nothing's coming out of the speakers at all. Have I missed something? Do I need to connect the jack-jack lead that came with it to anything?

Also, can you please just confirm that the WD _should_ be able to decode HDCP signals on the HDMI ports. Should it work? I can only see posts mentioning that this might be a problem on the WC. Is it likely to be a problem on the WD as well? If so, is there anything I can do about it?

When is the site update due by the way? Last news about it that was posted here was that it was supposed to happen in November 2011 I think?
