HDD or SSD for games

Sure is.

Again, more sweeping assumptions.

Considering you have provided no tsngible evidence for why a game would perform/load better on a mechanical drive than it would on an SSD five to fifteen times and more faster, other than "the os uses some cache " of which a modern SSD has more than enough to cover entity these demands, then I would say your position in this debate is a tad tenuous.

Sigh... Seriously? Why would I try and state a MECHANICAL disk is faster than a SOLID STATE DISK. We all know that's not the case, regardless of the situation.

What's being argued is having the OS + games on the same disk compared to separate, with the SAME DRIVE TYPE in both scenarios. Please, for your own sakes, think things through.

Let's make this simple for people just wanting common knowledge, as this discussion has far surpassed anything related to my original question.

Best situation with multiple SSD's: One SSD for OS and one SSD for games
Best situation with one large SSD and mechanical: OS + games on SSD, mechanical for storage
Best situation using small SSD and large mechanical: OS on SSD and games on large mechanical
Multiple large HDD: Raid them up if they are the same size

Simple. Now, can we stop this keyboard warrior crap and move on?

My original question wasn't anything to do with the above question, it was around what people do day to day. As I'm running out of space on my 500gb SSD frequently and simply don't have the space nor enough F's to give to constantly copy data from my 1TB mechanical to my SSD for games. Through some constructive answers, it seems even the latest games rarely see a performance hit so having a dedicated large mechanical to hold the majority of my games library is the best option FOR ME. Not everyone. If I had the budget, I'd buy 5TB of SSD storage in a heartbeat. But I don't.

Because that's what we were talking about for half the thread at the point you chipped back in... with the "LOLZOMGHAHnoobz" teeniebopper above you claiming his 64GB SSD and 1TB mechanical drive were an unbeatable combo.

There were about three separate discussions and lines of thought going on in the thread, hence why I people are I assume getting confused.

Think a little yourself before you start getting aggressive and dismissive, because many people on this forum have been building and maintaining PC's since the 80's and 90's and it is quite frankly laughable when people go all "aspergers kid" and treat people like they are idiots when the problem is simple misunderstanding.

I'll have a read through shortly. If there are crossed wires, then apologies.

As it stands, I've just bought a lovely 4TB from v0n on the members market and I'm very excited to finally be able to pick and play games when I want. Sick of having only a handful, I'm terrible. Wish I was like my partner, able to focus on just a couple of games at any given time.

Or... I could pinch the 2x1TB drives from the NAS and put a single 4TB drive in the NAS and raid the 2x1TB drives for games in my PC... But then I can't download as many games lol... Choices, choices.

I have 4x evo pro 512gb ssd and 2x 4tb hard drives for storage..

Problems like this don't occur in my life

That's nice sweetie, I'm glad your spending mummies money wisely.

But seriously, no one likes people who boast. Also, thought I had you blocked? Has the forum reset removed people you've blacklisted?

My first PC I built was a 4.7 mhz machine.

We all have a common hobby of computer games and each have opinions, so naturally. No lol.

Because my opinion is right and yours isn't so NERRR. :D:D:D

I still feel you will benefit more from a high cap mech just for the raw capacity. A lot of good points are being made about *some* games running better on ssds and I can vouch for one of them i.e. ARMA doesn't fps drop when you zoom in really far on a fast drive. But this is the only one I know personally out of many games.

Yea, for the way I game (lots on the go at once) and my budget, the 4TB drive is the best option.

I always thought Xenia was the best bond girl, does that count as agreeing.

150mb is pretty nifty but its the small files seek time that is a pain. Simple answer to OP is for competitive games you want SSD and other games a more leisurely pace is fine, use the HDD

Arma is an old engine with an overly ambitious range on a free world, drawing in lots of textures. Its only 1 or 2 threads so I bet its not caching what a more modern game would

Hahahhahahhaa please stop commenting on things you have no idea about.. which is pretty much every thread/reply you make on these forums.. I cringe at every post I've seen of yours.. some of the **** you type/ask is embarrassing.
