He did it again!

Here's where the car landed:

VERY steep road. Google has it wrong tho, the white road is "The Struggle", the Yellow one is Kirkstone Pass.

This fault finding is mostly based on reputation.

FIATs don't rust any more, they haven't done for over a decade and a half.

Same applies for Fords, within the last decade or so anyway.

Cant say I've ever seen a mk2 Mondeo with rusty sills/arches or hear of rusty suspension arms needing to be replaced.

Edit: 1000 posts Mofo's! Didn't take too long... ;)

19 with 5 accidents and 6 points? Let us know when he gets his next insurance quote, I could do with a good laugh :D

Do what was originally planned.

Have him buy his own car, with his own money. That'll hopefully give him more respect for it and therefore take it easier.

thats the way to go, the your parents dont have to spend any money just make him save up to buy and insure the car, as 2thumbs says if he has paid for it he is much less likely to trash it.

I think the he's paying for his own cars route is the most likely. My Dad's saving up to replace the 156 (10 years old and >110,000).

As for weather it makes him drive like everyone else we shall have to wait and see.

Only annoying thing is it's brought my car hunt forwards a bit, the £2k budget is on shaky ground.

I don't understand how the £2k budget is an issue for your own car. You can easily get a car for much less and insure it...and it doesn't have to be a rotting Italian or a (perfectly fine) Mondeo, autotrader is a wonderous thing. ;)

I want something fairly decent, like a perfectly fine Italian.

I don't think I'm going to be able not to at least test the water with a quote for a rotting Mondeo without offending 50% of the population here, so I'll do that.

I'll run the Xsara through, even if the suspension is a little "comfortable" for my liking.

Can I get a Skoda of the VW kind for that money?

Are Audi's good at this price?

Maybe not the Mk2s, but the jury is still out surely as they haven't been around that long. Fords are now without doubt better than the Sierra days, but you do still see an awful lot of relatively recent Fords with the bottoms of the doors and wheel arches hanging off.

There is something to be said about getting a car that you or someone you know knows inside out and it can save you a lot of money. In this case i think i'd recommend the Xsara. If you can't live with the looks then the Dturbo, but you'll get less for your money.

Peugeot I'm not sure about, The 807 is so unreliable that FIAT dropped it, and the current range is about as bad, How that relates to 1997-2000 era cars I don't know, but I'm not filled with confidence.

I really don't know how you can be worried about the build quality/reliability of other marques when you seem adament that Fiats and Alfas are the be all and end all.

Everything else I can think of is going to be, at the very least, on par with those 2.

I know of 4 people off the top of my head that had/have Fiats under 10 years old and all 4 have had problems, 2 have had HG failure and have both done under 80k miles, one of them has practically fallen apart inside.

Regarding the brother, if you have access to him while he's sleeping, smash (and break) his right shin with a cricket bat or metal pole while he's asleep. When he awakes screaming insist it was a delayed injury from the accident, and you were just playing cricket/metal-pole-swinging.

Otherwise, if you are worried about him dying when he does get a car, just keep sabotaging it, removing plugs/cables etc. OR fill a cylinder or two with water to keep the power down!

In all seriousnessnessness though, it's a bit awful for you, as even though he's a loser, I assume you don't want him dead. (If you do, call 0181 811 81 81). Send him on a driving course perhaps? Though he might just dismiss it all.

I don't know, plant drugs in his car, feed him alcohol and when he gets in the car call the po-po. You only have to keep thinking of things till he's about 75.

It's still here.

Just got home for Easter, opened the garage, and was greeted with...

My map was soaked, and you can just see a new bonnet leaning on the wall, which was going to be to repair some previous damage he'd done.

So this thread is no longer worthless?

Edit: Oh, and he got a letter from Cumbria Constabulary about an incident with him doing wheel-spin in Bowness (we didn't know about that), and that if he does anything else along those lines, they will confiscate the car he's driving at the time. So he will only be allowed to drive to and from Collage on Wednesdays, when he finds a car to replace that one.

Your brother seriously needs to slow down before he ends up killing himself and his passengers! I had a friend who would tailgate mega close and i always shouted at him for doing it but he would never listen to me and ended up accusing me of driving even closer which was rubbish. I guess the fact that he had 5 accidents in 5 months didnt highlight any facts, i stopped going in his car after that discussion i had with him!
