Hell Let Loose...Company Of Hero's, meets FPS

This game is about territory and taking points. I don't think tickets are bled for kills, you only slow down the advance by killing, thus reduce the availability of taking a flag/zone.

Decent game does need good squad leaders who communicate well with the squad/other squad leaders and commander. Commander has to be good too. Try joining a squad with a squad leader with a high rank, you'll have a better game as they'll be experienced and help direct you.

You wont know where you get shot from, there are no kill cams, helps if you can use the map and compass for enemy intel. That said get in a good position with the whole team and I've had kills of 75+ and a streak of 19. It's a, who see's who first due to low time to kill. You need to use smoke and have squads and teams that can position FOB's and rally points in decent places, fail that and it will turn into a running sim. It's really difficult to see the enemy, hence why you move slowly, stop and look for movement, particularly in natural environments.

HLL, like squad, ARMA, Post Scriptum are much more realistic battle sims rather than run & gun shooters like BF & CoD. If you want a run & gun shooter then INsurgency Sandstorm may scratch that itch, but again mostly down to who see's who first as it's low TTK. Any of these games you try and play like BF or Cod, then you are going to struggle, as it's positional and using cover as much as being a snap shot. PUBG players will be more tuned than BF or CoD players to the pace and use of terrain and tactics more than run around bunny hopping and unrealistic things like grappling hooks shooting you up in the air. Last decent BF was BF4. 1, V & 2042 were awful. WHy they don't just remake BF2, BC2, Vietnam or 3 with modern a gfx engine baffles me as I'd buy all of them, as long as they keep the original game play without the plethora of endless silly perks. That said the project reality mod was there for even more realism in BF 2 as it could be modded. Ahhh, thems were the days.

All the decent games with people who care about the game are moddable. The dribble churned out today from supposed AAA developers are just scraping before they have had their time. I feel the BF franchise from the last release will kill off that franchise. EA with DICE need to go away.

I really fancy this game but I find talking difficult as my wife or daughter are often next to me in the office or in the next room if it's late at night.

I always listen to orders rather than go off solo but how important is it to speak during the game?

I wouldn't say speaking is necessary. As long as you can hear your team mates and squad leader, and can follow the SL's orders, you'll be fine.

Regarding a few of the points mentioned previously:

  • Servers: I have basically added to my favourites all the servers that have "UK" in their name - there is a handful of around 5-6 of them, and oftentimes they are full and you have to queue. However, its worth it, because you will be joining a server where by and large all other people have queued to be there specifically and more often than not have microphones.
  • Running simulator: Its only that if you have a team with poor garrison positions or poor positional play. If your team has a poor spread of defensive or attacking garrisons, then go Squad Leader and go build some! Protect existing garrisons if enemies are close - the game is categorically NOT about pushing the strongpoints - its about area control more than anything. Having good area control usually means that strongpoints will fall more easily - its about having your team within the 4 grid squares around the strongpoint.

See about 5 mins into this video to help make sense of that:

Of course there will be times where you get shot and have no idea where from, but next respawn don't just go and do the same thing. You will usually have a rough idea of where you got shot from so try taking another route or use different cover to close any distance. It really isn't as "campy" and "runny" as people are making it out to be - if it feels like that, then you are playing it wrong.

Ultimately, this game isn't like BF or COD, but that is absolutely not to say that this game can't be fun with all-out action all the time. You absolutely can get that experience from this game if you want to - but you are more than just a man with a gun, your role will have more purpose than that, and once you understand that you start to become a more useful member of the team.

Also, please, please, please, for the love of God, stop caring about your K/D in this game! It means NOTHING! It can often be far more useful to redeploy mid-game to a new attacking garrison or airhead or to fall back to defend a point. Its 100000% quicker than just running back a km or two. The amounts of times I see people milling about miles behind enemy lines when a point is being idly lost....they are just being useless there and they don't realise it.

If anyone wants to squad up one night, then just add me on Steam. More than up for a game - just have to get past the frustration of joining the same server and then getting on the same team (the game can be abysmal for that, particularly as it shuffles teams after each map).

In this case it will be fine, but you do get more out of it by having a team that is fully engaged.

Was flicking through twitch earlier and spotted yer man Stodeh playing HLL, popped in for 15 min to see what he thought and he was moaning about "id have 20 kills by now in other games", "i havent seen a player yet" , time and time again he just followed the sheep to slaughter instead of actually trying to be a bit clever.
The guy is a really good fps player with really good aim etc but id be lying if i said i didnt have a smug grin on my face watching him suffer :P im sure he got better later but he kept saying something like -5mins more he will play for every death them +5 mins more if he started to get some kills :)
Moral of the story no mater what God like aim you have this is a big boys war game.

Just had some great games tonight, particularly the last game on Hurtgen. Constant to and fro around the Scar and Hill 15, eventually wore the timer down to win 4-1. Had a great squad too. Trying to grind to unlock the final level on engineer, takes a while but you get points for free for just building nodes and laying down mines!

Lol I saw that, it was utterly hilarious seeing a so-called FPS specialist, absolutely failing miserably and getting so triggered by the game that he just started whining and saying the entire realistic shooter genre (squad, post scriptum, HLL etc) was crap

:D any recordings? This in itself sounds better than the game!

I'd love to get into this but can see it taking me some time, similar to when Squad did years ago. Sometimes im in the mood and other time I just want to run around and quickly get a few kills in an easy FPS like COD.

Is there an OcUK Hell let loose server? Joining the only one I can get in which are French speaking only doesnt make it any easier!

I expect he has the video on his twitch channel to watch, he lasts about 25 mins and then rage quits after being killed about 4 times and says that the game is garbage. Someone says that it has a steep learning curve to which he responds "thats the problem". So basically he is someone who watches Harry Potter because The Godfather requires too much thought :D , not so much an FPS Specialist as an arcade shooter jockey lol

Stodeh is a nice guy with top tier aiming ability but he chooses to play noob friendly games which im fine with but playing HLL for 25mins and saying it and the whole genre is crap is just immature and just an easy way to justify is failings.
He used to play BF1 and thats where he got well known on YT as a BF1 sniper but as fun and all that game can be the sniper sweet spot mechanic makes everyone a great sniper once they are in the sweet spot range its a one shot kill anywhere on the body, to this day its the worst idea dice have ever put into their games and as we all know they have made a catalogue of stupid mistakes.
I used to follow him until he moved onto warzone.

Also another here who plays this (when I can) - I've had it for say 6-9 months. Most of the really big bugs gone for the moment, still a few bits lingering. Overall, a good game for those that like a challenging fps game - does need some squad play to make the most of it :)

Whoever he was, he isn't wrong - its why most games like this thrive and then die. People just don't have the time (potentially ability) to do well and not accessible to all.

Thats the thing though, he is a streamer, he literally does nothing all day but play computer games. He actually has more time to play games than almost anyone else in any other career. So it wasnt so much that he didnt have the time (he actually says at one point that he had tried now for "20 mins , so quite a long time" - we have different definitions of a long time if he thinks 20 mins is a long time but then again maybe he has ADD) , its just that he couldnt be bothered to learn. The basic jist of it was, I cant kill people and cant be a sniper, so I'm not interested. Instead he swapped to playing Battlefield because he can kill people in that. So for him, it wasnt a lack of time, more a case of I can pwn at BF but I cant pwn at HLL so I'll just stick to BF.

Which is fine I guess. Some people just arent good at playing other games and so stick with what they are good at, bit like Asmongold when he tries to play anything other than World of Warcraft :)

Sounds like a bit of an idiot to me if he thinks 20mins is quite a long time but has time to sit playing COD / BF and whatever else all day and doesnt do much else. Am i missing something?

I never understand people that don't have a standard 9-5 type job or shift work (any work) eating up 8 or 9 hours a day, but then say they are too busy. Busy doing what exactly???
