Helldivers 2

Just about to log on and looks like the game servers have been hit by an Automaton EMP. Probably ****** at how quick we got the Mechs unlocked.

Bloody typical :D

To be fair it's down to how many people have unlocked the Mechs and logged on :)

Annoyingly I try to sideways roll/dive out of instinct from other games (Hogwarts, The Division) but dive doesn't work like that in the game.
Yup, number of times I’ve ‘dived’ into trouble when my ‘the division’ head was thinking I’d be diving out of trouble into cover - instead I’m laying prone on my belly waiting to be bummed to death by bugs/robots/team stratagems

edit: that's not a criticism of the game, more an example of how at 48 it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks :( :p

I keep doing the same thing lol

It's a bit broken ATM I feel. Lots of times tonight teammates couldn't stim, some running around stuck with arms open pose, get stuck every time you pick up a medal or requisition jobby, keybinds reset and finally vanished on screen compass. Oh and no rewards for any missions but I think that was because the servers melted.

I dropped into the Helldivers official discord channel and I've never seen anything like it. Sure it's a bit busted this evening but the salt was utterly undemocratic.

Downloaded it tonight and started playing it on the recommendation from a fellow school run dad.

Took a while to get in on the server to start, but a computer restart sorted that out

I quite enjoyed it, found it not to be very smooth to play despite a constant 75-95 FPS. Looked at settings and it was in upscaling ultra mode. Switched it off to native, get the same FPS, but so much smoother and it looks a lot nicer.

My only criticism is that you don't end up in teams often enough, and it's quite hard to complete a mission when not in a team (obviously that's the point), i was on my own for 50% of the missions tonight.

Other than that, there doesn't seem to be much depth to it just go round shooting bugs and robots, wastes a few hours, probably better if your not billy no mates like me.

Yeah the stuck for 20 secs while collecting goodies and there's a glitch where extracting I see people can get stuck on the ramp which didn't happen till the update. Few issues to iron out now including the difficulty adjustment was a tad too aggressive I feel.

It's definitely more fun in a group and difficult to Solo to the same degree of efficiency, but if you can find like minded people on here to team up with, it's a blast for sure.

There isn't much depth to it as such, which is why I'm surprised/bemused to see some people raving about it like it is some revolution, but sometimes the simple gameplay is the best. But there is quite a lot of gameplay complexity largely due to things not being documented, etc. for example the weapons have a variety of blind fire (or lack of) functionality, you can use the environment in a range of different ways and so on, even saw a video of someone who managed to land on a tank and plant a hellbomb on it - if you drop it on the main part of the tank it sticks to it rather than falling to the ground.

Getting a bug quite a lot now after about an hour of play where when selecting stratagems for the mission it'll just select a random one when you click and you can't change it and only fix is restarting the game :(

Been messing around with flame thrower and arc thrower tonight. Flame thrower is good vs bugs, especially chargers. Arc thrower got good range and infinite ammo but the damage seems very random. Managed to drop a bile titan in 3 or 4 zaps so need to play around with it more.

People looking for depth, it's not really there. You run, you shoot stuff, you get blown up/disemboweled/melted and you go again. The depth is in the heroism of you and 3 buddies or the joy of seeing your 380HE decimate said same buddies and hearing their IRL screams when a bile titon or 4 is chasing them.

I don't know how long it will last but it's mindless fun that you can apply a strategic game plan to, if you want to.

I never heard of HD1. My mate pushed me to get it before it released but the footage didn't make me interested. He bought it on release so I went and viewed people actually playing it as it did seem good, what helped was on keys sites it was only £26. This for a brand new game was uncommon but after I played with a friends for the first couple of days laughing and exploring it was actually very good and better than a LOT of games release recently. I can see why this gets raved about as its had next to no hype, small budget in comparison to the other rubbish getting released and the fun levels are much better than for example when I played Destiny 2.

Hopefully they fix the issues and build out the potential before it gets stagnant.

Figured out(thanks to a post in Reddit) what could’ve been the cause of my game crashes. I had an Xbox controller connected to pc using a usb cable for some other games. I unplugged it and not had a crash since! Need to test this out properly obviously - for testing purposes of course

“Day 3 of testing, no more crashes to report, but feel I should finish liberating this planet before being too hasty with my findings. Only 93% to go…”

Was a bit hesitant to buy this and hop on the hype train.

But so glad I did, what an absolute blast it is. So much fun.

I think it's great how you can tweak the difficulty levels depending on how much time you have/what mood you're in/who you're playing with.

FOR DEMOCRACY!
