Hellgate: Londom demo thread

awful when people who shouldnt be posting screenshots are. (read the NDA, it still isnt lifted) and even worse when they take them on rubbish computers.

tom, who knows what your doing there to get such a bad screenshot if your running the rig that the benchmarks are off in your sig. prolly copy pasting it into paint. good for some things not good for others and exactly why theres an NDA.

Firstly, as has already been said, the NDA is lifted.

Secondly, It was my screen shot rather than Tom's and I wouldn't say my computer is rubbish. It's not the greatest in the world, but it is an X2 4400, 2gb RAM, 8800 GTX, etc, etc, etc. Those shots are from the game with everything set to max. They are from XP though, haven't got round to trying it on Vista for the DX10 stuff. Taken at 1920x1200, lost a bit due to compression, but as I said earlier it is no unreal III in the looks department. I still think it looks ok though

Considering that is max it's laughable tbfh. Worst looking game of 2007 award goes to.... :p

not really fair, the indoor parts are much nicer an my comments about NDA still sand, that's why they are in place.

them screenshots were not exactly flattering were they? could you have done any worse? NO

However as somebody else described this as the "spiritual" move from Diablo.
Well considering Diablo 2 was an over-hyped pile of....that isn't exactly a great start.

In your opinion.

I thought the Diablo Series was fantastic.

Just played the demo and I think its great and follows in the Diablo spirit.

I'm enjoying the beta. I think I had to shake off expectations a bit along the way. Definitely has a Diablo feel about it as I just want to keep going back into sections to wade throgh the nasties, collecting and levelling.

Looks like crud (Look at the viechle models in Tottenham Court Road for example- Textures simply aren't going to fix those), and it totally lacks an unstick command. Got stuck just into the 3rd area and gave up- I've seen nothing special, and its frustrating as hell.

I was playing this during the Friends and Family alpha stage, I was really looking forward to this game.

In my opinion it's just another game that's being released way too early :(

i think one of the bigger issues here might well be that, well, a random map generator isn't going to ever look as good as someone who makes a full level and spruces it up to the best it can look. a random generator is going to incredibly difficult to make work without bugs, and even harder if its got more complex models and stuff to place.

while this might make the leveling up later in the game slightly less boring, at least the maps will change slightly, they still aren't likely to change much, IE indoor missions, the rooms will have the same stuff in them, just they'll place them in a different sequence which overall doesn't make for much change.

considering people tend to play mmo's for the multiple months to years range, starting off with such a terrible look that is aged already, will just get worse over time much faster than anything else coming out thats new.

as much as i enjoy fps's and CNC3 type games, they don't offer the length and multiplayer atmosphere of mmo's, so was really hoping for one of the new lot to actually be good. tabulsa rosa or whatever the heck its called, its just plain dull, feels horrible to play. this seems like it won't be worth playing so far.

i can imagine getting bored of the outside london station to station maps within an hour of installing the final game.

textures can give a dramatic improvement to feel, but overall the outdoor maps seems setup to be boring and pointless.

frankly, the ranged class seems as dull as can be. run around with two weaps out and fire button down. then when you get to a boss, run backwards with both weaps out with buttons held down. the sword's were only marginally less boring.

i think its more like another case of taking a pretty decent, fun and long game style, and insisting on being unique, but failure to really think of anything unique and so the designers go a step too far with their engine, over reach and fall horrible short of a good game. as previous post, i think the randomly generated terraine idea is good in theory, but in reality has meant incredibly basic boring and dated level design, as thats likely the only way they could get a random map generator to work without being horrifically buggy.

Gameplay wise it might be ok for me, gfx wise well i dont give a monkeys about gfx as long as its not too bad like 1990 type lol. From screenies it looks good for me. And never has a game i have or want yet has to have next gen gfx for me to consider getting it or not.

U just can :) hell some games u know there gonna be crap just from the menu screen.

OK, Some games granted but you can't apply that to everything.

After 30 seconds on Hell Gate I was a little disappointed but started to enjoy it as it progressed.
