Help, Computer build not working :(

Hello,

This is my first computer i've built and after building it all i've powered it on and the computer turns on for about 2/3 secs then turns off again. It doesn't load long enough to get to a BIOS and i know its working and my 3 fans all start up. I have then taken each component out and ran it with just 1 stick of RAM, processor, motherboard and power supply. Even after doing this is still cuts out after 2secs, i also swapped the RAM stick around but still same problem.

I have included a list of what the spec incase there is a obvious hardware error...

I only have connected 2 plugs into the motherboard, is that right? the large one and the smaller one. And thats all thats connected to the power supply and it still wont work.

Am i missing something here? I really hope its a simple mistake ive made, if you need anymore information please give me a shout as really want to get it working.

Are there any beeps, long or short and how many?

if possible, test the PSU on another PC.

Try keeping the PSU plugged in for 5 minutes before turning it, to allow the CMOS battery to charge a little, then try again.

Thanks for getting back, there isn't any beeps but i don't think i have a speaker attached to the motherboard and my other computer doesn't have one either so cant snatch one from there.
How would i test the PSU on another computer?

Can we have a picture of the board where the wires connect?

If another family member or mate has a PC you can take your PSU to them, swap yours with theirs, and see what happens.

Are you using the stock cooler ? or an aftermarket cooler ?

Is it seated correctly ?

If it boots up for a few seconds and you have the 24 pin and 4/8 pin connected then it doesn't sound like a faulty psu (I could be wrong)

You have connected the cpu fan to the motherboard cpu fan header ?

You could always try the paperclip test to rule out the psu.

Same psu as yours

Yes that is connected and starts up when the computer boots but then it all dies

As you can see from this picture it is an aftermarket cooler, this was in my previous comp and worked ok. I have taken it off and there is paste on the processor so there is obviously a connection as i only applied paste to the heat sinks as a test to make sure they did touch. I have checked that the fan is in the correct slot on the motherboard, but i cant believe that its down to a heating issue as its only on for a second or so so i cant believe it would overheat that quickly.

Thanks for the vid i will defo try that, maybe when family are out as i am liable to electrocute something or someone in the process....

does it power up as soon as you turn on the psu / plug the psu in or do you have to press the power button?

Is your switch button correctly plugged and working, I think when you switch pc on and keep pushing the button it will switch Off after few sec, find in manual which two pins are for switching and touch them using screw driver once

It turns on as soon as i plug the power in... could we be onto something

The power button from the case will connect to a 2 pin connector on the motherboard front panel header. If you touch the pins with a flat blade screwdriver it acts the same as you pressing the power button.

I think your front panel connectors are wrong, mainly the power button. check these again

AS above and if for some reason this two pins are still connectd pc will shutdown

Ok i will have a look at the documents fro the motherboard and will check my wiring now. Ill get back to you with a update.

Also, un plug everything you don't need, so disconnect hard drives, usb headers & cd roms, if you have the original Intel cpu cooler use that also. If you can, also remove it from the case, just incase you have a short.

Also I notice you are only using 1 stick of memory, will the board support only 1 stick, and does it have to be in ex slot. ?
