Help - DID just break my pc???

I did that... nothing!! :( Didn't wait a minute though......

I first tried it when the PC was on for some reason - can that break it?

No idea.

Unplug the power cable.

Leave it for a minute.

Press the power button on the PC to drain any residual power then press the clr CMOS button.

Have a read of this thread.

There are sample settings for 4.4GHz and 4.8GHz in that thread that I can see, maybe others.

It should give you an idea of how to set the overclock manually. Perhaps yours just won't work with the automatic setting.

Watch your CPU temperatures. You want to be staying lower than say 75 degrees.

ran the intel burn test and the PC froze AFTER it successfully completed ???

argh that's worrying?????

I can see the windows screen but the mouse isn't responding

Make sure your RAM is set up correctly in the BIOS.

10-10-10-28 timings, 1600MHz, 1.5V.

I tried unplugging the power supply, waiting a minute and pressing the button on power then CMOS and then powering up and I didn't get a display......trying it again but leaving a longer time gap... hoping it willl load the bios at least this time....

:/

worried again now....

Try connecting to the video outputs from the motherboard and see if you get a display then.

You may have to remove your graphics card (I'm assuming you're using one).

did the whole clear cmos thing again and then hooked up DVI-D to the MOBO instead of the GPU and that has not worked............

:/

what now?

is this looking more like a failed component?

shall i try reseating the graphics card?

If it's not working with the onboard video then it's not likely to be the graphics card but give it a go if you like.

I'd check that all the power cables are securely connected (especially the 24 pin and 8 pin to the motherboard and the cables to the graphics card) and that the RAM is fitted securely.

You did remember to fit the motherboard standoffs before you fitted the motherboard?

Also try loosening the four screws securing the CPU cooler a turn. See post #41 onwards in this thread.

Right I just tried reseating the graphics card and taking the sticks of ram out..

I put 1 stick of ram in the 4th slot furthest away from the CPU

Yes i did remember to fit the CPU standoffs.

My display now launches however all I have is _ flashing in the top left of the screen ??

Are you able to get into the BIOS?

Just keep bashing the Del key as soon as you switch on.

I think the flashing "_" is because it can't find a boot drive.

If you can get into the BIOS set your HDD as the first boot device.

can't get into the bios ....

smashing del didnt work

not even getting the flashing "_" any more

do you mean swap the optical drive and the HDD?

I meant setting the HDD as the first boot device in the BIOS.

You could try unplugging the DVD from the motherboard and see if it'll boot from the HDD. Try the HDD in different SATA ports, it should be in one of the black ones.

Have you loosened the CPU cooler block a bit like I suggested?
