evening,

I'm currently looking around for a new car, as i've decided to sell my 205 XS.

Now, i'm looking for something equally as fun, chuckable, but kind of refined as well.

- £1500 budget
- Fun
- Bang for buck - as much as possible for my budget

I could push to £2k but i'd rather not unless it was for the right car.

I've been looking at Xsara VTR's (1.8 16v iirc.)

Cheers!

Sounds like textbook Xsara VTR to be honest, good choice already and they are fast becoming very cheap. You could try a 306 XSi but that would be kind of pointless if you like the VTR.

Dare I say ST24 ;)

A mondeo. I dont know how fun they are to drive but they are packed full of features

205 mi16, you will struggle to go faster and keep the insurance around the gti mark. i am not joking og and test drive oine you wont be disapointed. its ina totally diffetne leuge to the VTRs mentiond:) failing that a tidy 2l nova can be had for that money and is just as quick. if you can get over the nova image (i did it and its a wonderful thing once you do) pretty quick cars for the moneys :)

Erm, well they aren't the easiest car to work on.

But then a small car with a big engine isn't going to be.

They need looking after, you really need to keep an eye on the fluid levels (inc gearbox) and they'll treat you good.

The gearbox on mine went despite being a recondition unit but simply because of the fact I never checked the gearbox oil level and hence it was very low and the box burnt out. it cost me £150 labour for a replacement box to be fitted but still, that whines a bit :(

If your confident with a set of spanners or have mechanicaly minded friends you should be alright.

Like you say, your looking for Fun and when they work (lol) they are great fun.
