Here we go - ~£1500, fast, fun and insurable!

Rover Coupe Turbo ;)

You know you want to.

You'll even have change to get some decent suspension and brakes.
For pure bang-for-buck, I was going to suggest exactly the same thing - virtually nothing is as crazy fast for £1,500. Not sure you'll have much change if you want one that won't blow a turbo or gearbox in the next 10,000 miles, but I see where you're coming from :p

Dolomite Sprint :D - 127BHP+, rear wheel drive, 4 speed manual overdrive box (6 gears), excellent driving position, built to go fast - power built in as standard, not added!

Seriously fun cars :D

Listen to Lashout, Dolly and you knows it. I still need to get round to buying one. :(

Lashout, get on msn!

I've been tempted by Enfield on MSN with Saxo VTR's.

can you really get a decent one for £1500?

I'm trying to think of reasons to buy a Saxo VTR when you are a 205 GTi fan who likes Xsaras.

I'll let you know when I think of any but IMHO if you want a chuckable very small hatch... get the 205 GTi youve dreamed of, otherwise get the Xsara?

I really want a 205 GTi - but I don't really want to get a knackered one, and would rather wait a couple of years until i can afford to run/insure a decent one (ie Mi16) and not ruin my preconceptions.

I know that you'll know what I mean.

Good luck getting one that isn't a complete dog for this money. Might be able to squeeze a 220 hatch turbo though. Let's be serious though, it's a group 17 car, insurance company is gonna laugh in your face.

I would have thought the obvious choice was a 205 GTi? 1.6 should be less on insurance than the 1.9 and the box is nicer to play with too.
Or, if you really wanna curb your budget, the 309 SRi has the same engine/box but will probably half the cost price and insurance due to desirability. Some people say the 309's handle better too.

309 SRi? i thought it was the GTi that was the same?

The 309GTi shares the same engine/box as the 205 1.9GTi; the 309 shares the 1.6 engine/box. The 'box mated to the 1.6 lump has shorter ratio's than the 1.9 and makes for some quick 0-60 dashes. The one we had was a basic 5 door looking car with the 1.6GTi alloys.
It's a very understated car and surprisingly quick.

S13 200SX :) Masses of them for sale at the moment on SXOC, seems to be very much a buyers market too. Insurance will be much cheaper than you think, seems to be much cheaper than insuring a Coupe Turbo.

Dude ill think youll find a 220 Hatch Turbo will go for more than 220 Coupe Turbo :) Coupe turbos are cheap now. Seen many around the £1200 price tag in good condition :)

Also insurance aint that bad, i was paying £2k, that was 18 with no NCB
