Here we go - ~£1500, fast, fun and insurable!

That is bad! :p

LOL :D I was paying that at 19 with Pass Plus for a 214 :D

s0ck, I can see where you're coming from, but IMO the 220 hatch is a much more sought after car.

Less were made... therefore less to buy and higher prices.

I don't think I've seen a hatch for sale for less than £1500.

PMKeates, they're fine if you keep them as standard... and I mean, come on, 6 seconds to 60 and 150+ top speed, that should really be fast enough for anyone.

It's just when you start upping the boost that things get nasty.

205 GTI.

Got mine a couple of weeks ago - loving every minute of it. I honestly can't just "go to work" or "go to the shops", I have to set off a half hour early and blast up the local twisties. It's so much fun to drive.

I love 205's, I've got one, albeit an XS. I just don't want my preconceptions of them to be tarnished if i buy a lemon. and lets face it, i have a habit of that:p

CRX for the win IMO.

My toilet seat handles better than a stock 220 Turbo. :p

Hence why I said you'd have change for some decent suspension and brakes :p

OT, Jonny I recently saw pics of your old Coupe for the first time. I don't know what to say

Hmm, missus wants to replace her 1.0 Corsa (wow@mpg) could be a decent fun option.

Its an good small car, just get one thats unmodified and looked after and you will be ok, you can get 40mpg+ in it so fuel economy isnt that bad.

Just watch the Rover Turbos - quick but they have an appetite for gearboxes - Brother in law used to be a rover mechanic before going to work on planes for the air force, and the gearbox was the weakest link he said, even weaker after all this time. Same applies to Vauxhall turbo, but I think it's the diff that goes on those?

Saab turbo. Get a Carlsson - loads of kit, 2.3 turbo 230hp, 150+ and goes forever with more lights and gadgest inside than the starship enterprise. Chip to 280 and hang on!!!

Mk1 Supra or a 300zx that someone has spent loads on and got fed up of throwing money at it.

Big mile volvo turbo T5 - disposable reliable thrust that you can drive every day and chuck a sofa in the back. Or a bed, whatever takes the girlfriends' fancy :)

S1 106 rallye, fun isn't in a straight line ;) and you'll be having so much fun you wont even notice the rather spartan interior.

If you don't want to compromise on fun, then a 106 Rallye is the answer (IMO).

A friend of mine picked one up for £1300 6 months ago, and its a right hoot on the backroads. Puts a massive grin on your face

Cousin bought one when they came out (L reg? With 1.3?) Revved to something like 8500rpm, felt quicker than it was but good fun to drive. At 130, near red line in top, felt like the front end was taking off :S Not right good on fuel either - it was almost mandatory to thrash it everywhere.

Quick look on autotrader has them starting at 1750 upwards though.

dad bought on for a giggle and its great fun to drive :D

I was gonna suggest one of those, £1500 should pick up a very nice condition one, probably with the rear arches already done (these do rust due to a stupid design by toyota :p)...

lovely 1.6 gives out 122hp and revs to 7,750rpm, 0-60 in 7.7s, IG 13 so not too much to insure and lovely handling, more so because of the feedback you can feel exactly what the rear of the car is gonna do makes it easy to catch when it steps out :)

I tried so hard not to do the predictable thing and pimp my own car in this thread but now someone has gone and done it for me :p
