Here we go again!! Another knife attack.

If argue that there is a strong an obvious correlation between

1) police funding cuts (under Theresa May as home secretary, and carried on)

2) leading to reduced police numbers.

3) leading to rising levels of violent crime

Nothing to do with lefty civil servants.

You can double police funding and numbers but if police are too scared to stop and search black youths for fear of a racism claim it won't make a blind bit of difference. If I were a black gang member in London I'd be rightly walking around feeling untouchable. All you have to do is merely accuse a cop of racism and they'll get suspended pending a lengthy investigation.

FullFact also says they launched some sort of scheme in 2014, that's interesting as the knife crime statistic i was look at show it declining until 2011/12, it then stays level until 14/15, and from then on its been increasing.

Obviously correlation doesn't equal causation but it does seem to be pointing towards the increase being related to stop & search rather than cuts to policing.

Yeah, couldn't possibly be more than one factor.

Of course it’s more than one factor. It’s a multi decade accumulation effect of our social security system.

I’ve friends in the police in London and they tell me half their day is spent chasing kids around that are taunting them, throwing things and doing everything they can to be trouble makers. Some of the houses he’s been into in Brent where they live are full of dog poo, nappies on the floor, drug addict parents. There’s a huge hidden problem kept well out of sight from the public.

Well if you're aware of the other factors that correlate with the knife crime statistic I'm all ears, like i said correlation doesn't equal causation but it can lead us to investigate further.

If it's something like cuts to police funding, for example, are there any statistics that correlate with the increase from 2014/15?

The thing is that contradicts the information we already have, knife crime was declining until 2011/12, it then stays level until 14/15. That's despite the fall in front line police offices shown in that graph, if it's been caused by a decline in police officers then why was it declining until 11/12 and remained steady for the next 3 years despite losing officers during that time.

Maybe there was a tipping point? It's clear there aren't enough police any time somebody starts a 'victim of crime' thread moaning that the police are too busy to attend burglarys, stolen cars etc.

I'm curious what's the definition of 'front-line' police officers, maybe some less important/relevant 'front-line' police officer positions got cut first and then they started cutting actual bobbies on the beat.

They've now arrested a suspect:

will be interesting to see who this person is.

Just to follow up on this, it was indeed "interesting" to see who the suspect was:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...estioned-doormans-mayfair-murder-charged-gun/

The son of radical hate preacher Abu Hamza is being questioned over the murder of a doorman outside a New Year’s Eve party in Mayfair.

Imran Mostafa Kamel, whose father is currently imprisoned in a high security US jail, appeared in court today after being arrested by detectives investigating the death of Tudor Simionov.

The bouncer, 33, was stabbed in the chest while trying to prevent a group entering a VIP party on Park Lane, Mayfair. Shortly afterwards he died in the arms of a colleague.

Seems the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree (allegedly).
