Here we go again - Clattenburg accused of racism

The current Man united chief executive is the FA vice chairman, he is high up on the FA board and its a clear conflict of interest. It was clear that the officials were going to do everything they could to help man united win the game against Chelsea. Overall the extra protection and dodgy decisions that always go man United's way add up over the season. Funny how man city and Chelsea both end up playing with 9 men recently.

Haha :D

I think this post is proof that living in a rubbish place like Ipswich turns your brains to mush. Possibly the most ridiculous post I have ever read on OcUK, most of the GD posters would be proud of this conspiracy rubbish backed up with zero evidence.

That's a bit harsh to be fair. It could happen...

Dont be so close-minded about the possibility of corruption. Its an environment where players get paid up to £13m a year and referees get £70,000 a year. Im sure all the Italian fans refused to accept the possibility of corruption in their game a couple of years ago too.

We know there is corruption in FIFA, why not in our league too?

Corruption? Yes I agree maybe at the top and in terms of how money is distributed, but not at the levels are talking about and actually influencing refereeing decisions and who wins titles. You are in cuckoo land if you really believe that in all honesty.

£70,000 a year is pretty reasonable I think. It is, or should be a difficult job to get, and so the pay should reflect that, and the responsibility they have. If they were paid £20,000 per year do you think that we would have better quality referees?

Words have deserted me on this one.

Please explain why united failed to win the league last year then.

If it proved then chelsea have the right to demand a replay because the ref decisions cannot be sound. If this was a criminal case and the judge called a defendant a Spanish **** do you think the case would stand?

It's a very big allegation, one that needs to be investigated. People jumping to the referee's defence, and saying that Chelsea are just doing it out of spite are really missing the point.

If it turns out that nothing was said, then fair enough and if there are specific rules around a punishment for a false allegation (knowingly or unknowingly) then they should be followed. But if it does turn out to be true, then the referee needs to be punished accordingly. Whether that's a game-ban and fine, or sacking, so be it.

Racism should not be tolerated, and needs to be dealt with. Jumping to either ship is premature.

In terms of EPL corruption and officials influencing matches the EPL is currently expanding globally into potentially massive upcoming markets (China/USA etc) so it is very much in the FA's interest to have a close/competitive league. The last thing they would want when trying to sell the league to foreign markets is a league with one or two teams running away with it and winning 5-0 every week, there's no doubt Man UTD are England's most popular club globally so it's also in the FA's interest for them to be challenging for titles.

I think it would be naive to believe that the FA don't use what few tools they have available to them to try to ensure the league is as entertaining as possible and for as long as possible.

Clattenburg is racist, he discriminates agains any team without Manchester and United in the name. His shamefully biased performance was even more blatant than when he disallowed spurs' goal against man united when it was 3 yards over the line. Still, he has impressed his boss David Gill and will now be protected. Im beginning to think our referees are more corrupt than incompetent.

Except racism is no more sacrosanct than any other form of prejudice or discrimination. I.e does it matter if a ref books someone because he's welsh or a cheat or his race...hell utd have black players too but if the ref is pro utd or anti Chelsea this should equally be taken as seriously as if he had some form of racial prejudice, from a purely footnalling perspective.

I think match fixing pales in comparison to racism. Neither are acceptable, but one is clearly a much more serious offence.

SSN reporting that Clattenburg has the full support of the match officials...make that what you will.

At least one good football match is ruined per week by officials also, hence my recent enjoyment of NFL much more, football is a joke with a bunch of inconsistent refs/governing bodies/players who are pussys/divers (yes Suarez) and terrible coverage

I find it a little hard to see how American sports are the solution. No ebb and flow to games, stop start and always over the top.

I know that we are all fantastic referees who get every decision right but lets try and apply a little common sense to this.

The Evans, Torres sending off looked like a yellow for Evans to me on first viewing and a dive from Torres in every slow motion replay. I'm not a 100% sure either way and I have seen HD, slow motion close ups. He has a few seconds to decide with both teams baying for blood around him.

The offside is not his to give and ones where a player coming back onside across the defence is very hard to spot.

Seeing how no one on here is actually a professional footballer we don't have any idea how much it takes to bring down a player. Their balance, speed, direction, point of contact have much more say in whether a player goes down than the amount of contact. Anyone who compares football to rugby or american football and comes to the conclusion that footballers are pussies has gone wrong.

With regards to the racism claims, I can't see any other outcome but an apology from Chelsea when they find out that its a mis-understanding.

Both sides will be fine and it will be forgotten about soon.
