Arguing that 'gun deaths' is a meaningful statistic is a red herring. Deaths are what is important, because you're just as dead whether you are shot or stabbed.
Agreed but that's not what I argued.
Ironically the states with the worst murder rates in the USA usually have higher levels of gun control. Of course, correlation doesn't necessarily equal causation, but that applies to the deaths and gun ownership point just as well...
Again, not what I argued. The fact remains, guns are advantageous. I'm not talking about end statistics, just the items themselves. Cars and cigarettes kill more people at the end of day but that doesn't mean owning a gun won't help someone commit murder or suicide. If guns weren't so desirable for those acts, then a lot of people wouldn't bother obtaining them in the first place.
Does that mean that restricting guns will outright stop everyone becoming murderers? No, of course not.
