Heroes of the Storm

Got a beta key in the mail the other day, haven't really touched a Blizz game for a while but thought i'd give this a whirl and have been enjoying it, just a shame I've been playing with a bunch of numpties in the pugs. If anyone fancies grouping up, my battletag is Zildjian#2915
 
Would be interesting to know how matchmaking works. I find it hard to believe so many people have played so few games that they don't understand how each of the maps work.

Yet I always seem to be stuck in a team with plenty :D

It's not a matchmaking issue, it's a general player base problem that haunts any online game with no specifically dedicated divided servers.
Assuming that only 1-5% of the playerbase is actually good and the other can range from utterly useless (say, my mothers level, who never played a PC game in her life) to very good players, you can get anything.

Unless you get to rank1, don't expect for the majority of players to know what they're doing :-).

Have you played any ranked games yet or are you just doing normals?

I still found it better than league, at least for now, where players have 3000-5000 games played and still not a clue of how to play.
 
Yeah need to hit Rank 30, I am only about 25 atm.

Anyone that has played enough games to hit rank 30 should have at least map basics down or they must have lost a lot on the way to 30. :)

Looking forward to seeing what ranked play is like.

I have only just started playing and haven't really touched MOBA's before.

That said I do try and play the objective and to my basic ability. I have played in some great games where the team has captured the objectives, supported each other etc... and won comfortably.

Other games I've played where people just think its a 5 on 5 brawl and got completely wiped.
 
One thing I've learnt over the years from playing MOBAs is that if you're PUGing, never expect anything from your team and if you want to win, play a hero that can solo carry games :-).

And yes, it's entire possible to win the game even if your team is bad. I've won so many games by solo pushing like crazy with Abathur or roaming and picking up solo kills with Nova.

Abathur is especially good as you can swap from pushing one side of the map to the other in an instant so if somebody goes to defend, you can instantly change to other side of map forcing them to send someone else back and well, if they dont send anyone, they're most likely to lose. at lvl16+ I've gone as far as pushing 2 entire forts and base within just around 60 seconds if enemy focused on objectives. It's funny to see how some teams totally ignore you and then they suddenly realise they have 0 base left haha.

The prices doubled and more during the day. I noticed G2A had them ranging from $4(£2-3) upwards so decided to take a chance.

I played this a bit way back in the alpha but i got bored after a few weeks, i bought the Abathur so i could try out all the other chars without paying for them. :)

My friends have tried to get me into these sort of games a lot in teh past but i always tried them for about 30 mins and then deleted them and went back to wow or FPS games. This is the only one that kept me interested for a few weeks so i guess it cant be that bad.
 
I've had to add everyone again from the list due to having an issue with my game account. It had been accessed from somewhere and everything removed. All sorted now.

My gf loves LoL and is bloody good! I'm an absolute loss at it, I can just about survive ARAM but the mechanics of the main 5v5 are just lost on me entirely. I can't be bothered with all that micro management and keeping an eye on everything.

I love CS competitive for example.

She wants to get stuck into HotS with me, is it going to be gentle on me? I take these sorts of games with huge doses of salt and generally try to have a laugh and not take it seriously.
