Hi my name is Linda and I am calling from Microsoft...

I really want one of these calls... would be so much fun bored one afternoon.

+1 I'd love to string them along for a bit,

"On my windows pc? Ah ok.. I'll see if I can find it.. *30 minutes later* I don't use Windows... I use Ubuntu.."
"Wut?"

knowing my luck it'd happen when I have the least amount of time :p

I think my youngest daughter would get caught out by one of these calls even though I've warned her.
Yesterday she had to drive home from Uni (1 hr away) because an internet pop up came up saying she had got a virus so she followed the instructions :(
It took control of her laptop and it took ages to track it down.
I then noticed the last 2 programs that were installed (at the time it happened) and they were called Microsoft Security Essentials & Malwarebytes - very clever.

The scam is more to do with them with taking money off your credit card as they can then prove by providing ip logs to a bank/credit card company that they actually provided you with a service (download some meaningless software and running it) for there £99.95 charge. The bank/credit card company then have difficulty then processing a chargeback claim on behalf of the person who go caught out.

How the hell do these idiots get our numbers?

There is a device which can be bought that will screen every single call and block known telepests.

The device even records the conversations and saves them to a micro sdhc card. It costs a bomb tho but I am thinking it might be a good bit of kit to have, more so if you need proof of somebody being abusive or lying about stuff. All you need then is the fake microsoft virus call and a good sense of humour lol :)

What I don't get is, why don't those little sods over on 4chan, anonymous and co, get hold of one of these websites and blast them with those website bombarding devices and/or hack into their website, get crucial info and send them all viruses. That'd teach em!

I didn't record it unfortunately no. I was semi getting ready to go out and sorting other stuff out so didn't really have the time to wind them up extensively. How does one go about recording calls on a landline? What is an easy way? I'd like to do this for when I speak to some of the incompetent CS desks for various things from time to time like my ISP.
