HID upgrade kits

Legally you have to have washers, and they have to be housed in projectors.

That being said my Type-R passed an MOT with no washers (got projectors though).

Like most things, e.g. E-marked exhausts, you'd probably only fall foul of a particularly arsey cop.

Dont really understand the washers requirement. I have headlight washers and the only thing they seem to do is make me have to top up the washer bottle more frequently.

Mine are good for scaring the crap out of passengers when a wall of light reflecting in a mist of water suddenly appears infront of the car. That's about it :D

Tell you what does suck - normal bulbs behind projector lenses. Seems to totally kill the light output more than normal reflectors. I have the brightest normal bulbs I can find (without going to illegal rally bulbs) and the dipped output is not as bright as other cars with uprated bulbs such as Focus or MX5.

Well I got the full kit from HIDs4U and they passed their MOTs at a BT Fleet workshop, there was a little bit of adjustment required but the lamps have an electric motor on them to adjust them anyway. The beam is sharp, but is IS a regular reflector beam pattern - however there is no glare from the headlight area, I get no one flashing their lights at me, no troubles from the police. It lights up the road nicely (I went for the 5000k ones and not the "bluer" 6000k ones as I wanted more light on the road) and much more clearly, I can see the signs and road markings better, it's made my night driving experience much safer IMO.

Get off your high horses, with your condescending remarks which non of you would ever say other than on an internet forum.

Sure I agree there are some people who use cheap dodgy ones which really point all over the place and just cause a blur of light - but properly fitted retrofit bulbs are fine and work well and are perfectly legal (from the horses mouth of the MOT chap) especially as they are all E-Marked etc...

What you *think* is irrelevant and frankly I don't give much to it as it's all conjecture, inferences and assumptions.

Every day people pass MOT's with unroadworthy cars so I'm not entirely sure what that proves really - the numberplate thing is a fine example of that.

Only because in the real world you dont tend to get 7 blokes stood around discussing construction and use regs.

This is where i will be getting the kit from and also where i'll be getting the car MOT'd and serviced

Nope - they just fitted into the "reflector" shield inside the light cluster, and produce a sharp line at the end of the beam, don't dazzle, and I can adjust the pitch anyway. The beam is sharper, the light is clearer, and it makes a huge difference.

What car do you have?

I retro-fitted HIDs to my Focus, on reflectors and they worked, as advertised. As cleanly cut beams as projectors? Obviously not. But far far far more light on the road. Was worth the money I paid for them twice over. No black strips here.

Ballasts and bulbs, direct fitment into lense with a little drilling of plastic to route cables.

How old is your focus? I'm thinking that in newer reflectors that can be adjusted to point down it may be fine

I'd suggest to you that in general cars pass that are roadworthy, and seldom pass non-road worthy cars.

Which proves my point, that all this "info" is a pile of crap.

Or perhaps y'know, people have better things to talk about 'in real life' than lightbulb legislation?

Just because people don't talk about it day to day doesn't mean it's wrong or 'crap'.

I'd suggest to you that the simple checks carried at out the MOT are insufficient to pick up on badly fitted HID kits which dazzle oncoming drivers through being fitted in types of lense which are unsuitable for use with HID lighting.

Well no not really

OP here...asking his question again...

Every time I've seen a Focus with a HID upgrade - I've been dazzled to the point of having to close my eyes.

But sure - you feel nice and safe because you can see the road. It doesn't matter at all that the driver doing 60 towards you is driving completely blind.

Only briefly had issues with people "complaining" and that was when the right cluster had been knocked out of alignment.

Thats because we are all sick of flashing people with badly fitted HID's because it's apparent than in the selfish world we live in these days it doesn't matter to them.

Quite frankly, sod off with your opinion that in your mind represents every single person on the planet and for once accept that your pseudo-know it all knowledge is not 100% correct in 100% of every circumstance.

We are?

No Fox, you.

You

Your opinion does not speak for every other road user, and YOUR "sickness" of flashing other road users does not translate to all of them.

I am sick of your generalised sweeping statements on almost every topic from someone who from the outset appears to be at least somewhat intelligent but fails miserably at identifying that others peoples opinions are not only just as valid, but just as true.

There are more people on the road with standard Halogens that are mis-aligned that blind more, those who cannot toggle Main Beams to Dip to save their lives, people who drive in front of you with rear-fogs turned on. BUt oh no, watch out. The Anti retro-fit HID brigade are out in force led by Mr Fox because ALL retro-fit kits are bad and ALL cause dazzling to oncoming road users. What a pathetic and juvenile stance.
