HID upgrade kits

Only briefly had issues with people "complaining" and that was when the right cluster had been knocked out of alignment.
How do you expect people to complain? I'm too busy concentrating on not crashing, and trying to protect the last shreds of my night vision by shielding my eyes to 'complain' by flashing.

Not that I would imagine someone who fits HID's to reflectors would give a crap anyway.

I don't think Fox is anti-aftermarket-HID at all. He is anti-aftermarket-HID when involving reflectors... which in 95% of cases seems to be correct. I was a total cluebie about all this last year and Fox helped me out... result was I got some aftermarket HIDs for my projectors.

I personally would be concerned at your inability to adjust instead of staring into them like a rabbit in the headlights.

Even before the days of HIDs people were dazzling other road users in varying ways. You talk like someone just shot out your tires.

So what, some people have crappy headlight installs that dazzle other road users, if you think it is such a huge risk to your safety on the road, do something about it.

There are more people on the road with standard Halogens that are mis-aligned that blind more, those who cannot toggle Main Beams to Dip to save their lives, people who drive in front of you with rear-fogs turned on. BUt oh no, watch out. The Anti retro-fit HID brigade are out in force led by Mr Fox because ALL retro-fit kits are bad and ALL cause dazzling to oncoming road users. What a pathetic and juvenile stance.
I'm sorry, but other peoples ignorance is not a justification.

Boo hoo?

There is ignorance everywhere, not just on the road.

I personally had my lights aligned, received no normal use complaints in any form and was satisfied that my install was not causing anyone any issues. I have been personally dazzled by Factory fitted HIDs on the likes of 4x4s but what are you going to do about it?

You wont get a justification, whining about it on an internet forum is not going to change anything neither will dramatising your awful experiences. You can either deal with it or I don't know, don't drive? If it is such a huge issue. Rear view mirrors have a dip, you can avert your eyes away from a direct source of oncoming light. No more dangerous than changing a track on your headunit or reading a road sign, you should not have HUGE issues with your night vision providing you don't stare into them.

If you somehow think I am saying its OKAY to have really bad headlights and everyone else just has to suck it up, you are wrong. My install was fine, had it caused issues I would have rectified it. Simply just the way the world is and sometimes you just have to deal with it, regardless of whether it is 'Ok'.

When you've finished ranting we'll continue this discussion. I'm not anti retrofit HID at all, I just think, like many other people, that it needs to be done properly for it to be safe.

And yea, people with badly adjusted Halogens are just as bad, as are people with fogs on.

What exactly is a normal use complaint anyway, are people supposed to write to you or something

but surely you have to agree that it's best to buy a projector kit as well

Of course it is better.

I've been blinded, literally, by police red/blue flashing lights on an unlit country road after having pulled someone over and leaving them on.

10x worse than ANY HID install I have ever seen.

Ranting? Damn right I am ranting when you march around with an opinion that dictates whether someones install is acceptable or not. Stop generalising, most of all in a thread where someone is ASKING about an install and will likely read opinions. If he choses to ignore it, install a cheap kit, with mis-alignment and scattered light all over the place then you can form an opinion of him. What you should not be doing is forming an opinion of everyone who has put HIDs into reflectors without any facts.

Statements like "most HIDs in reflectors are terrible" are fine "all HIDs in.." is not. Your not in a position to make that statement.

Out of SHEER interest - Who's driven in a LHD country and not used beam deflectors? I'm betting a fair amount of people, not necessarily in this thread or in this forum.

I dont get how a cheap HID kit is any different from an expensive HID kit. Surely they're both just a brighter bulb in the same size as the halogen they replace. They will both do the same thing in a reflector. Scatter more light.

I am hoping the OP does read this, as if his car has reflectors he shouldn't be fitting them. It does effect other road users.

I thought it was generally accepted it's more than simply opinion that retrofitting HID kits into halogen reflectors is bad. I think the fact you are getting so het about this and so very defensive (This is most certainly not your usual posting style) is indicative of the fact you probably know your HID setup isn't strictly 100% correct, have we touched a nerve or something?

Why are you constantly bringing up other equally irritating motoring habits to try and justify your own?

I do not need to justify anything of my own. My standpoint on my install does not change anything based off your, or anyone elses, opinion.

Check the preface to that question. Out of SHEER interest. That was put there to indicate (to someone who can perhaps fathom why it was there) that I did not ask to have any bearing on what my opinion is and that it was just out of curiosity. Did not think I would need to spell that out.

I am ****ed at your opinions that dictate that all installs are bad when mine was perfectly fine regardless of your opinion. It will not suddenly change because you do not complain ergo nobody does.

100% legal? Nope.
Acceptable and within thresholds of any other factory fit install in terms of appearance to everyone else? As far as the evidence and experience I have with my install, Yup.

S2000 comes with HIDs and Projectors from the factory. I retro-fitted to my Focus.

I can be anal enough about bad motoring habits to feel I am in a comfortable enough position to evaluate whether my install was carp or not. I hate people who drive with fogs on, I hate stupidly mis-aligned headlights. For the £250 or so it would have cost me to put projectors in my Focus had I felt they were needed I would have done it. My beams did not illuminate above the rear glass of cars in front, there were no visible light in their cabin from my beams, they did not leak up the side of the road, nobody ever flashed me, Main beams filled light where dips did not have any illumination beyond what the halogens did.

You have to admit you are getting rather stressed out and carried away with this. It's just an internet arguement about Xenons, it's not a life or death situation. Step away from the keyboard for a bit if you are getting this worked up about it. Honestly, you are usually a pretty calm and measured guy so tonights responses seem a little weird.

What do you expect when you make snarky generalised statements? Ones that insinuate directly that I am a selfish ignorant with zero concern for other road users. My main beams are off before the oncoming traffic even sees my car because I chose to watch out for their beams before they breach corners or hills because I know how lame it is to be screwed over by lumens.

Well then we'll have to agree to disagree - myself and many others in this thread are firmly of the opinion that you cannot safely retrofit HID's to a halogen reflector and the roads these days are awash with various older cars with Ebay HID's blinding everyone. Thats my opinion and you won't change it - although as you've never driven towards your own car quite how you 'know' yours wasn't the same is beyond me.

All seems fairly academic given your current car has Projector Xenons anyway

I hate aftermarket HIDs usually find them on chav mobiles such as corsa and saxos, anyway dont you have to have auto levelling and washers for it to be legal??, the last two cars I bought have factory HIDs and they both had auto levelling and washers
