HID upgrade kits

wow, what a thread. i thought mr chase was getting worked up about the projectors his s2000 has... but it turns out to be a focus.

ive seen plenty of foci (?) on the motorways with hids (i do lots of miles, lots and lots), with the mk1 focus headlights, hids look terrible. like two portable, blue-ish, suns coming at you doing 70mph

It's funny how HID threads always end up like this.

Regarding 'bay' HID kits, a bulb is a bulb (though some may be brighter than others), the pattern produced will be the same as thats down to the reflector / projector used. But, the difference is in the ballasts, some very cheap kits use Analog ballasts, the higher quality ones (like hids4u use) are 100% electronic. Electronic ballasts are much better at controlling the arc / start up.. and I assume could give better life from your HID bulb.

I think a lot of the problem in this thread is some strange phenomenon called 'HID snobbery', those with expensive motors that they paid silly money for Xenon factory fit options don't like cheaper cars retrofitting for £29.99, it's not fair ;) .....hence calling them 'chavs'. If you paid £750 for your factory upgrade then you quite clearly have more money than sense (ie - not a chav lol)

Legalitys aside..Washers / Self leveling motors... it's not really important in the grand scheme of things (hell I don't have auto leveling on my bike, when I throttle on the beam probably blinds), but I do agree old reflectors shouldn't be fitted to as they do glare a silly amount. It's just being courtious to other road users..

Newer reflectors handle the extra light a lot better..

/opens HUGE can of worms to replace small one and leaves thread

i dont think its snobery, i drive an old golf with them, in fact i doubt its just people with expensive cars that hate dodgy hid setups, anyone that gets blinded by one coming the other way probably hates them... so i doubt snobery has anything to do with it

does it matter ?, if your HID upgrade improves your lighting (and passes next MOT with them) then all is good imo

10 spotlights on the front and driving everywhere with full beam on all the time improves your lighting but you wouldn't advocate that, would you?

what about when youre riding along, some muppet with a total hash up of an hid setup comes the other way, blinds you and you crash?

there is a reason why there are safety regulations we have to conform to

you should move to essex. i think youd fit in

er he has, by passing the MOT the tester has given his trained opinion that it is good to go,

agree. and by newer, less that 4 years I recone.

bullit

trained/professional means nothing. ive known many people in the past get mots on cars without cats and with skyhigh emissions. ive known cars get mots without even leaving the driveway.

no-one in this thread has ever been blinded and crashed... you all need to stop and being over dramatic.

a very small % of people fit aftermarket lights and of those a few incorrectly

mountain out of mole hill I think.....i've noticed the odd person with bad lights, i just don't look directly at them, never had a problem with it. (might mutter under breath though)

this thread is DEFFO HID snobery :)

If they work so great with reflectors then why does every OEM HID system i've ever seen with reflectors come with a totally different design than the Halogen counterparts???

If they work so great why did they spend lots of money redesigning them getting them right???

Seems very odd when they will hunt around for the cheapest component manufacturer for everyother part even if it means saving 1p per car made.

Ah that makes it alright then, long as you only get blinded and get away with it then its A OK, i passed a motorbiker this morning he was on the floor after a van pulled out infront of him whilst he was no doubt doing 50 - 60mph since it was a national speedlimit road, so long as hes only crashed and not died thats makes it ok then?

I have aftermarket HIDs in both my car and my bike. However, both have projector lenses and both I have adjusted very low and taken great care to make sure I'm not blinding people.
