Hiphop fans in here?

I don't even like hip hop really, but I thought I'd wonder into the thread. My god, how many statements are there that are just 'You like that music? I DON'T LIKE YOU!'. C'mon, grow up. Its even worse than the rock fans for gods sake. Enough with the music trolling?

As I said, the only thing I can think of which remotely could be called hip-hop is maybe a few outkast songs. What album would be a good place to start?

Thank you, for that, most people who have contributed so far seem not to understand the idea of this thread.
Outkast is alright, you can get the album with Miss Jackson track on it, it is supposed to be good. :)

Everything I know to be hip hop and rap music is trash in my opinion. I'd love to be proved wrong with examples of classic music etc but I doubt my opinion will change.

Your opinion and you are entitle to it. Now my opinion - Hiphop is definitely not trash. :)

I like your post. Yeap i heard of sway and i have seen him perform, he is one of the top uk hiphop act and you gotta give loads of credit. iirc he sold 10,000 copies of his mix tapes without even having a record deal!

Lady Sovereign im not too sure if she's got a deal but i read she's like in the U.S, having said that the article comes across as something put together by her PR people.

Im gonna check out the other artist later, i am at work at the moment and certain restrictions are in place of the computer here.

You're the main culprit, spackcheese. Other people are trying to convince you that there are alternatives to gangsta rapping in a thug accent, and you don't seem to see it. All you're proving is that you're a victim of marketing hype. Well done for sticking it to the man, bro
.

I love Hiphop and that Covers Rap, Hardcore Rap, Gangsta Rap, Grime, R n B, Crunk etc. I am open minded in terms of Hiphop. As per the accent stuff, all im saying is I dont have problem with an Artist trying to do it the american way, if it sells them record good for him/her.

If you are an Artist wont you wanna be sucessful commercially? and i guess that will make you a Hype??

problem for me is, that if you're into Hip Hop in the UK, you may as well forget seeing anything live if you're not in London or prepared to travel there. everywhere round here is really dry for live performances.

Yeah, i see your point. London seems to be like the NewYork for Rap at the moment but eventually people in other parts of the country will start to run their own things too.

You know i have listened to interview on Tim Westwood show and most of the American artist seem to give loads of Credit to Kano? Then i wonder why people like sway, Klashnekoff, skinny man etc dont get any recognition.

Dont get me wrong, Kano is doing all right but he dosent represent UK hiphop in my view.

Because the whole point of making music is to sell records...or not? You don't change your accent to sell records, because you aren't in the game for your love of music anymore really.

Let me clarify things - IceBerg slim came out rapping that way = no problem

Dizee Rascal is doing it the British way = No problem.

Now, if Iceberg slim flips to british and Dizee rascal picks up the american style then there is a problem.

Im sorry record label dont support artist who do it "just for the love of music" anymore you are either a sucess of a flop period.

they're still RnB dude. in my opinion (as i think that the generalisation of music is as subjective as the music itself) that's just RnB with a Rap break. the beats, bass and main voices are still very-much RnB

Ok. I will remeber that. :o

Can we look up that free encyclopedia for the definition of Hiphop and R n B please?

Guys i thinking in order to keep this thread alive, maybe i should change the tittle?
At the moment im thinking of -
All things Hiphop
Official Hiphop thread
Hiphop Nation..

Any other suggestion? Or may be i should just keep the original one?

Of course he is still a player

There aren't that many other MC's like him. On a similar level your looking at guys like Meth, Mos Def, Busta etc.

Although his last album, he did get across his hatred from homosexuals....

Same thinking i have in mind but im kinda sceptical since his last ablum (the grand champ) was kinda okayish. Methodman seems to lost the plot, Ghostface is kinda like the new methodman now. Mos Def imo is still yet to capture back / reach the heights of his first album (or second) Busta rhymes is the only one who seems to moving from strength to strength especially signing to aftermath will do him good in the long run - I dont think anyone signed to aftermath ever complained apart from eve that got dropped.

Also does anybody find it annoying when a producer has to say there name on every track they do? j.d, jazze pha etc...

hope this makes a bit of sense, i'm tired :(

Iirc, puff daddy statrted that trend.....part of the reason Suge Knight attacked him verbally during the source award in the 90s.

I think the whole producer things is changed, before you only see their names at the back of the album in the credit section.....I guess it is all down to the producers letting people know they are resposible for the track and you can buy their services with the right price...

Up to the late 90's, wack rappers didnt stand a chance, despite high production values, sure the odd one or two would slip through. Since 97/98 however it has gradually become amost reversal of that. In the sense you have can good beats but the rappers are not saying anything of lyrical value. E.g. Nelly, G unit, dipset, etc.

That is so true, Nas said this "put a bitch on a hot back track and he would go platinum"

The Game aslo atestify to that - "How can i not sell when Dre makes my beat"

Hiphop in a lot of ways is being runned by this big record label companies, Can you imagine the problem between Nelly and KRS One. I mean who is nelly (lyrically) to stand up to Krs one? He dosent stand a chance. During the time of their Beef, KRS one got on a radio station and asked hiphop fan to boycott nelly's album and let him know we aint all fooled by the light he invented......Guess what the following week, Nelly was on that particular station promoting his album!

You have to see the bigger picture here - Krs = Hiphop, Private record label without any major backing. Nelly = Plenty of fans, major record label backing.......That says it all really, Needless to say Nelly's album (sweat suit) sold 4million copies or so while KRS managed 75 000 copies. What im trying to say here is this - The record labels have messed up the hiphop scene that you dont exactly require talent these days to sell millions of copies.

Imo it is a matter of time, things are set to change but im afraid it wont be for a long time when you average cd buyer thinks Eminem is the best rapper ever and people like nelly are talented artist......God help us.
