Hiphop fans in here?

If you're a fan of Jedi Mind Tricks or similar, I recommend checking out the new album from Outerspace called My Brothers Keeper. Listened to it all weekend, pretty epic :)

You aint wrong!

Gracias - Feel Me

I really like smooth stuff like this. Nice find. From Finland as well? I'm going to DL the album but I can't find this track, do you know if it's out yet?

You aint wrong!

Some people cant get their head around anything other than commercial hip hop which is a shame. The UK has been a vibrant and lively hip hop scene since the 80's, producing some amazing music, some people can only listen to rap if it has an american voice to it, which is a shame as they have missed out on some brilliant stuff.

Give some other stuff a listen, you might find that you like some of it! I started out with some real crap but found a few artists I liked and it went from there. Sonnyjim was my first UK album, he is rather Americanised (which is why I liked it in the first place) but he is really good.

This is what I find the most really. People love stuff that is in the chart when actually it is manufactured crap. I still prefer the US scene to the UK but I can't deny that the UK has some great talent. Enlish and Lunar C included.

My girlfriend doesn't mind rap/hip hop but she really has started to enjoy the Don't Flop battles and albums that I've bought afterwards. I spoke to a friend about it and he said he just hates the accents that people have. When introduced to Stig Of The Dump he really liked it. I guess it is all down to what people are exposed to, shame the charts are just so cheesy.

And on that note:

Please ignore Charlie Sloth, he is an idiot. :D

Are you talking about me? I don't have a problem with underground Hip Hop, in fact I usually prefer it, or English rap accents as long as they're good rappers. Unfortunately, the majority of the time they're not IMO. I actually quite like French rappers, that rap in French.

My taste is all about the beats, not the rapper's nationality. Generally speaking it's smooth, soulful beats. This track by Gracias, in his own native Finnish, is really good.

It's not completely limited to that style though, this is OK. I did lol at that battle rap in Yorkshire accents though, it's like something from a sketch show. :p

No, the guy that you responded to.

My taste is similar, I started listening to hip hop in 1986-87, just as old school was going out and golden age was starting, there are many wonderful, beautiful hip hop tracks, I remember when MC Solar from France got some worldwide fame due to the first Jazzmatazz album with Guru, it introduced people to rapping in a foreign language and how pleasing it can be to the ear despite not knowing what was being said. I do prefer tunes to tell a story though, rather than be irrelevant nonsense strung together (unless its funny).

Around 1990, the UK scene was quite vibrant, acts started coming out from all over the country, Leeds/Bradford had the Ruthless Rap Assassins

And also out of Chorley was Krispy 3, two of my all time favourite bands.

To me these accents in rap have been around forever, i think northern accents lend themselves well to rap, Enlish's accent can take a bit of getting used to because its quite posh so I can understand that some people cant take to it as music is escapism and hearing a local dialect wont let you escape, I hate hearing anyone rapping in a Scottish accent (im Scottish), it makes me cringe!
