Hit by car for second time in 2 weeks

If id just overtaken someone on a bike (which is hairy enough at the best of times in busy traffic), and they then (illegally) mounted a pavement and undertook me so that id have to overtake them again, id feel like running you over as well. Obviously i wouldnt, but if you ride like a tw*t dont get your knickers in a twist when drivers treat you like one?

cyclists scare me - they waiver about all over the place & never in a straight line then expect all cars behind them to go at 10 mph too...

Thats because the roads are bad, giant pot holes, sunken man holes. Well its bad up here, dont know about down south.

The thing that really gets me with Cyclist is that they would rather ride down a 50mph road and risk getting injured than use the half a million pound purpose built cycle track that runs for miles 30 foot away from the main carriage way.

We're going back about 32 years but I got hit by two buses in about two months. One reversed over me and I sustained a sprained ankle and one hit me on my side when it was turning into a road. I flew across the road, I heard screams, I got on my bike and cycled home. By the time I got home the police were waiting for me with an ambulance (somebody knew who I was). They took me to hospital but I was only bruised. Both times I got a brand new bicycle off the PMT Bus Company.

To be honest I've never really had any accidents with cars in 10 years of cycling but my little sister was almost knocked off her bike and ended up with a rather bad ankle as result of a stupid blind car driver in a car park. It was not her fault by a long shot, she was cycling at a constant speed along a straight bit of road when a car pulled out and hit her with the corner of the bonnet then proceded to carry on as usual. How they didnt know they hit someone is beyond me!

I cycle defensively, no matter how fast I am going I always slow down at a junction just in case some idiot cant see me and always stick to the side of the road to let people pass me. What really gets my goat is people trailing me, especially people who seem like nervous drivers. I much prefer a car to just drive straight past me.

I am one of those cyclists that sometime cycle on a pavement but only when its the choice between that and cycling on a busy road where ars are doing 60. Choice between me hitting a padestrian at 10mph or a car hitting me at 60 hmmm?

And dont even get me started on the stupid ******* who walk down the middle of cycle paths, ignoring you completly!

EDIT: Also I think car drivers in this thread would be a little less anti violence (ok that sounds wrong but thats the best way i can put it) if they realised that not all bikes are insured, even if they are they arent for damage caused by cars, and that a lot of bikes cost far more than £100. So not only have you got the agony of almost being killed by an inconsiderate driver but you also have the agony of having to pay hundreds if not thousands of pounds of your own back if the driver doesnt stop.

So, you've been hit twice ....... and you're still alive and posting!? they assured me that you and any other cyclist in the area would be toast!!!! wtf, it cost me enough ..... :D

Cyclists should be shot! Simple as...

And don't get me started on those bloody horses which ugly females with big arses insist on riding

Do you pay for a road fund licence to use the road? No?

If I have to pay for a TV licence I shouldnt have to put up with freeloaders coming in off the street to watch TV should I?

Also, since you've got me started, when has it been legal or indeed sensible to hold up a main road with cyclists 3 abreast? They wonder why I want to run the little ******* down?

Theres a place for cycling and on the public highway isn't it...

;) :D

I think you should read up on the rules of the public highway.

The general public (specifically pedestrians, horseriders and cyclists) have a right to use them. Vehicle owners are permitted to use them provided they have vehicle excise duty paid (no such thing as road tax it was abolished in the 1930's), have a valid insurance and an MOT and follow the rules of the highway code - i.e. give due care and attention to other road users.

Likewise most cyclists will have paid vehicle excise duty on a car the own - perhaps if they are cycling they should be enitled to a refund then?

Also most cyclists will also be insured (via home insurance) or via a member of a cyclist group (e.g. CTC).

Please tell me the last time four motorists were killed by a cyclist?

You're rubbish at trolling. At least come in with a believable viewpoint to goad people into replying.

Oh, wait... :(

I will ingore the obvious attempt to get a reaction, but rather comment on your eyesight or sexuality! Some of the hotest women I have ever met ride horses. Therefore you are either blind or prefer blokes!

Can't we all just get along? Please?

If not, I'll have to smack your wing mirror and scratch the side of your car with my brake lever until you agree. :p
Only if I get to do a wheelspin on your non-road-tax-paying head ;)

Thems fightin' words boy! Don't make me get into my figure-hugging lycra outfit and get olympic on yo' ass. These thighs could crack a walnut!

As a pedestrian, cyclist and a driver I have encountered many idiots all that seem hell bent on my destruction. (or their own if they were pedestrians or cyclists.

IMO there needs to be a law put in place to say that all users of the highway must take a test to show Highway Code proficiency and ability to drive (or ride) safely on the road. Not only that but you need to retake these tests periodically. (every 5 - 10 years)

Starting with pedestrians The amount of time they have run in front of me when I have been driving or cut across me as I have been pulling away is untrue. IIRC it is not a requirement to stop if someone is waiting at a crossing only if there is someone on the crossing. This does not give pedestrians to walk up to a crossing and blindly step out assuming that everything around you will stop instantly. You are only supposed to step onto the crossing when the road is clear or the cars on the road have come to a halt.

Cyclists. When I cycle I make judgement calls based upon whether I should use the road or the pavement. If I am going up hill or down hill on a busy/fast road, I use the pavement. Going up hill because I am going at walking pace anyway and I wobble about a bit more making me a hazard on the road. Going down hill (the hill I do down is very steep and about a mile long) I apply the breaks and take care when near pedestrians. I do not use the road because I would be going down hill at approx 30mph and I would not like to be clipped, back ended or pulled out upon at that speed. This is self preservation).

I never ride on fast roads either anything where the average traffic speed is above 40mph is too fast for me unless there is a bus lane or cycle lane. I do not trust drivers with my life. I where a helmet and use lights.

Other Cyclists. I have seen some bloody morons in my time. You can tell a moron because they never have a helmet on. (These guys are far worse than obnoxious "I own the road" cyclists) It amazes me that the people that take the least precautions on the road are the most reckless. Usually never stopping at red lights and ploughing through what ever may be coming at them assuming the drivers will stop or swerve out of their way. Riding with heavy bags on their handle bars and wobbling all over the place. Hopping on and off the pavement without even looking to see if anything is coming.
The other day I was in the car at a proper roundabout and I saw a kid on a BMX come up and mount the island with the roundabout sign on it, he then hopped into the middle of the roundabout in front of a car which had to break heavily. The kid then hopped onto the roundabout, crossed it and did the same thing on the other side. I turned to the missus and said "I'd of bumped him then told his parents to pay the damage to my car"

Drivers.
I admit bad cyclists seem to be every ware but you should see some of the stuff I have seen divers do. There is a roundabout near where I work and from the direction I travel the roundabout is closer to me at the junction than it is to people coming the other way, I have turned right on this roundabout several times to be confronted with a car coming the opposite way pulling a U-turn around the island with the roundabout sign on it, without as much even attempting to go around the roundabout. I have seen at another roundabout a woman fail to turn around the roundabout mount the curb, reverse adjust her angle then drive off. Sadly I went into the same car park as her and I saw her dithering over about 4 places. I pulled past her into the one that was most convenient to me. Only to get an ear full from her (admittedly I was being impatient) I pointed out to her that if her parking was anything like or worse than her driving on a roundabout I would have been waiting all day for her to choose and enter a space. Her response was "I have a stiff lock on my car and I cant always get the wheel round". I was enraged. I told her in no uncertain terms that if she was not capable of driving her car to a minimum standard of road safety then she should have bought it in the first place, repair it if it is faulty, get a different car that she can drive or not drive at all.

Motorists and Pedestrian crossings. Ok I had a whinge about pedestrians above but cars are just as bad especially when there is a crossing that covers 2 lanes of traffic. The first lane stop for you but only this morning I was nearly flattened when I stepped into the second lane. All I could do was give the idiot motorist a round of applause. MOTORISTS. IT IS ILLEGAL TO OVERTAKE A VEHICLE AT A PADESTRIAN CROSSING.
Another thing that gets my goat is cars parked on or near turnings and roundabouts. If I had a James bond car fully kitted with rockets (or a tank/monster truck/Hummer) I would destroy each and every vehicle I saw parked near a turning, whether it obstructed me or not.

I admit I am not a perfect driver, but I at least try to remain safe and not be a nuisance to other drivers on the road.

I saw an old woman almost die yesterday from being hit by a car. She was moving out to turn right at a mini roundabout and the car behind her wasn't paying attention and took her off. She was a big ish lady and she was wearing a helmet. There just was no excuse such sloppy driving.

Two people had to give her CPR and the time I was there she wasn't responding to it. When the first responder I had to leave as my car was in the way. She might have died, but I just won't know unless they put it in the local rag.

Cyclists round here ride two, sometimes 3/4 abreast round these country roads, all 60mph. People in cars and on bike go rattling round these roads with 60mph a halfway house as far as speed concerned. I'm suprised they haven't been killed.

What really gets me is that you approach them from behind and they just sit there riding at about 20-30mph and point blank ignore that you're there so they can have a chat. On my old Punto I had a set of air horns on a secondary switch designed just for cyclists like that. Hedges ahoy!

Some people here seem to not care about other road users. Who care's if 2 wheel transport slows you down? Remember that you can easily kill a cyclist / motorcyclist, it's a one way arguement. here are some vital statistics: http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/statistics.htm

Please don't post negative comments. I never intented for this thraed to be Anti whatever. Under recent laws degradation of social groups is against the law. So saying something like.." Cyclists should be shot" *could* be classed the same as racism and should not be tolerated.

I feel that my statement is in line with OCUK's moral standing.

On a side note. My statement about Cyclists having the right of way was true but flaud. In the case of a road accident, a pedestrain is seeing as having the right of way, followed by cyclist's. < New law.

/End Dave Angel.

My 2 cents are basically that bicycles are far too dangerous for the roads, most never look behind them, are constantly swerving side to side. I mean motorbike and car users need to have a test and be at a competent level to use the roads, a cyclist can just jump on a bike and start wobbling down 60mph roads.

Wouldn't that make for a rather one-sided conversation? Perhaps you meant "don't post inflamatory bullcrap/keyboard warrior nonsense". That idea I could get behind. ;)
