HM Passport office

now looking through the photo regs for my new passport - https://www.gov.uk/photos-for-passports

Do not wear glasses in your photo unless you have to do so. If you must wear glasses, they cannot be sunglasses or tinted glasses, and you must make sure your eyes are not covered by the frames or any glare, reflection or shadow.

no one has to wear glasses when having their photo taken - who writes this junk.

If you do an online app you can just keep taking photos with a mobile phone until one is accepted by the "computer says no"

If you're stressing then just go max spielmans or wherever they will give you 4 physical photos and a photo code for the passport website

They also guarantee your photo will pass
As stated above some countries won't let you in, Iran & Lebanon for example, if you have an Israeli stamp in your passport.
do any places even stamp passports anymore.

My old one was literally 0 stamps and I must have presented it at a passport check 20-30+ times

That’s not what you said? you said “You cannot receive a new one without returning the old one... Unless you state the first is lost,” this is false

It's only false, unless you sign up for a special extra passport, when the conversation was about "renewing“. The average Joe isnt going to do that and they can not keep hold of their old passport in that situation, so unless your being massively pedantic it's true. Your clinging onto a really pointless argument here that doesn't apply to 99.9% of the population.

If you want your normal passport renewed, the normal way you apply, you have to send of your old one.

If your gona keep clinging on to a technicality then go on, enjoy being on your high horse.talking to yourself Strawman

yep returned the old one today - clock is running - hopefull they pre-print the new one and ship it once someone opens tomorrows post.
prequel was a, needed anyway, haircut and digital photo - took glasses off - system graded the photo as OK.

Previous signature was I thought sent digitally to them, but instructions suggest you will have to sign new one when it arrives ? so signature won't be laminated ?

bbc sometimes make good programmes
frivolous presentation but the technical stuff about passport uv dies/holograms was interesting

Glassism at it's finest!
racism - that programme suggests that the AI biometric face recognition algorithms are no longer racist - news to me, thought they had just turned down the sensitivity on white faces.

Legally, British nationals can possess two passports.

The second document is called a concurrent passport, and is fairly common for business partners to employ.

As stated above some countries won't let you in, Iran & Lebanon for example, if you have an Israeli stamp in your passport.
Stamping your passport isn't a requirement. So why go to the effort of having a second passport when you can just ask them not to stamp your passport.

if they want to record entrance and exit time you may have no choice ... at least usa short work visa used to be that way
You can checkin when you want but have to leave

When I go to North Cyprus they just stamp a separate bit of paper that you leave in your passport for the duration then when you exit you can discard it.

lol stamp post Brexit - but stopped in Nov.

Passport stamps are badges of honour for many travellers, creating a nostalgic paper trail of their adventures.

But they could soon be a thing of the past when entering the Schengen Area.

The new automated Entry/Exit System (EES), due to launch in November 2023, will register non-EU visitors digitally, removing the need for physical stamps.

but yes I'd want a clandestine stamp now, if i visited israel, russia ..... but, probably both on home office warning list anyway, with holiday insurance/repatriation voided.

Don't know if passport office are on holiday ? four business days elapsed

Made application on 14th & old passport sent 1st class same day, no update on their tracking system - maybe it will drop through door as they update tracking

need to update driving license expiring on 2jan when passport arrives.

Don't forget RM will be in it's usual Christmas position, on it's knees crying. So it may not have arrived with them yet.

yes good point ... maybe I should have visited post-office and sent it 'signed-for' - if - that get's any additional priority

that was a waste of 7p/min just tried to ring the passport office to see if they had received old passport , and if not to tell them they can consider it lost by post office

3 minutes telling me to use the web-site and not abuse the humans (can I swear at the bots)
before ambiguous instructions saying press 1 if your application ends in an X - well mine is "PEX" & and ten digit code number, so it doesn't end in X ???
type in the number part + DOB and bot says it doesn't know me.

put the phone down 42p poorer.

By jove they've got it/him
