Holiday Cottage Deduction from Deposit

As everyone is mentioning, £15 is staggeringly reasonable.

This is why I wouldn't rent/let a home to joe public, too many unreasonable/weird people out there.

Seriously, over £15? Just pay the 15 quid and be done with it. I think this is very fair! I would be over the moon with a 15 quid bill if my child caused an issue in a holiday home.

I was expecting to read they charged you hundreds of pounds

Probably got it off facebook market place for a fiver.

maybe she found the same set with one fire damaged on freecycle and simply swapped one out. I cant imagine this sort of conjecture has helped the OP get over this, he should negotiate for the set he knackered up to ease the pain IMHO.

£15? wow. I thought from the length of this thread that he was being taken advantage of.

I broke a lamp at the place we stayed at last week in the Highlands - worth £60-£70 and no longer available to buy anywhere. The owner also lived on site so I let her know and offered to pay for it. She was happy to take nothing but we agreed on £20 in the end which in no way would cover the cost of the lamp.

It works both ways - some property owners would have taken the opportunity to make a few quid, others think long term and the impact something really insignificant can have on their reputation.

Refuse to pay.

Instead go and find the exact same chopping board as a replacement, spend a few hours doing that, wait for it to arrive in the post, then drive it back down to the cottage so it can be replaced...

Worth £15 of your money to avoid doing all that?? Thought so.

Pay it and move on with your life... Honestly - I do worry for society when this is the biggest issue in your life.....
