Holidays 2022

Got back from a needed 10 days in turkey last Wednesday. Got Spain booked for September for a week.

Now looking into Thailand for November. Never been before, any recommendations for what to do where to stay dos and don’ts?

Went to Skye for a week back in March, weekend away at a nice hotel / restaurant in the lakes at the end of the month. Summer holiday booked in August, eight of us in a villa in Menorca then a five star all inclusive in Turkey at October 1/2 term

Already done a long weekend in Bordeaux and a week in Slovakia. Starting on big extension works next week so will be too skinned to go anywhere anytime soon and will need the days off to do some work.

Hopefully will get away for xmas to see family, might try to go to see them in the summer but mainly to get away from the building site for a weekend. :)

Can recommend Indian cities, specifically Mumbai or Pune for a cultural change of pace and a city break :D anywhere near Juhu beach for Mumbai, and definately the Taj Blue Diamond (old school British imperial style) in Pune (prefer the latter myself much more "relaxing").
Yes! Have stayed at the Blue Diamond in Pune a few times, and can't wait to go back. India seems difficult at the moment though, you need a visa.

My friend flew from Birmingham over the weekend to Kos. She still finds it puzzling why do people think they can still think they can take 2l bottles of water/soft drinks and 400ml bottles of shampoo in their hand luggage or not have their liquids in a clear resealable bag? The rule was introduced in the summer of 2006.

The last times I flew out in 2019, I heard people shout that they have rights to bring their 2 litre bottle of Coke with them. You don't. Only things you can take over 100ml are baby food, baby milk and medication (with a letter)

A few years ago I was waiting for my flight check in to open and was sat by the entrance to the security area. We saw a family walk up the security area and stand there reading the signs about liquid limits. They then went through security and got pulled aside. When security opened their bags they pulled out several large bottles of water and Pepsi. They’d just read the limits and still went through anyway.

Anyway, we’ve booked 2 weeks in Mauritius at the start of September. It’ll be the first time I’ve been out of the country since May 2019. Not really looking forward to the boredom of the 12 hour flight but it’ll be worth it.

I've got 2 weeks off after 14th June, still trying to decide where to go, it's either Australia (possible camper trip from Syndey to Brisbane or further up to Cairns depending on how long it takes. Or a week in fiji/ Rarotonga. I can't make my mind up.

Requiring a visa isn't a new thing.
A visa has always been required for India, but it is a little more complex and time consuming at the moment because they removed the UK from their E-visa list which means you have to go old school and book an appointment at a VFS centre.

No family holiday as such for us this year, i am planning to go to Australia later this year for work, and then back to Orlando ( as usual) next year for our bi-annual six week theme park assault.

It has to be a supervised LFT for the USA i.e a provider that either does the test in person or via a video link. Anytime the day before i.e doesnt have to be exactly within 24 hours of the flight.

Thanks for the clarification. @booyaka here is your answer, apologies for the mis-steer but I did note in my post it wasnt for the USA

cheers - will look into getting that booked/sorted but hopefully with still a month to go, they may change that before the flights...

ESTA sorted the other day as well

17 days in the USA staying with Sister in law (just outside Manhattan) then 5 days in Lanzarote later in the year for 20th Wedding anniversary

Got Rome and booked in August.

One of my favourite citys top tip take the high speed train from Rome to Florence for a day trip (only hour and half) and stand in amazement as you see the Piazza del Duomo for the first time.

Forgot what the app was now easily find the info online you can buy tickets off the phone and can also go all the way to Venice although 3 hours 30 I believe.

Nothing booked yet but will likely head to Europe in the summer for a week, likely Berlin or Prague (been to both before and just want to chill for a week).
Might get a weekend away locally before then (Scotland)

The trains in Italy really are fantastic, fast, cheap and clean! We did Milan - Venice - Rome a few years back and I did Bologna - Rome about 4 years ago as well.

I just wish I lived closer to London (I’m in Edinburgh) as it would make going by train a real option for a holiday in Europe if I could jump on a Eurostar and then connect into other European trains, as it stands its 4 Hours 20 from Edinburgh to Kings Cross - it just doesn’t make much sense when I can get to most places in Europe within that time on a plane from Edinburgh.

Wish the airports seriously sort out their security. I can’t stand up for hours without blacking out. Flying from Manchester T3 in Sept. Flight is 6:40am. What crazy time do I need to be there without missing the flight?

Yeah I'm worried, we are flying out to Valencia 5th July, also from Manchester.

We decided not to bother with air travel in 2022 and are using the overnight ferry to Holland in July. I used it 2 weeks ago and it took 20 minutes from arriving at the port to get on board and parked up, dump my bag in the cabin and sit in the bar with a pint. We're taking pushbikes in July, rather that a car, so it might take a bit longer.

A mate of mine has just come back from Valencia for Kubecon and he said Manchester Airport was an absolute nightmare, and then ended up getting a 9 hour delay in Valencia. I've been putting a holiday off again this year because of the airport scenarios.
