Home Assistant beginners

Ok so here goes

both these run on the upstairs extender using the ethernet port

homeassistant ip 192.168.0.34 (ethernet)
laptop 192.168.0.8 (ethernet)

downstairs on wifi

ipad 192.168.0.17 ( wifi)

i currently have 14 devices connected via either ethernet or wifi and they all have 192.168.0 as their IP prefix. They are also connected to SKYDEXDD router

Okay silly question - have you tried the full URL on the iPad, including the colon and port number?

It seems you are on the same network so that puts to bed my theory about double NAT/conflicting dhcp servers.

Have you Port Forwarded 8123 to the Pi in your router ?

Hopefully not, that'd only be needed if trying to access HA externally and exposing a plain HTTP port to the internet isn't a good idea.

That's unexpected. All 3 devices are on the same logical network so it should just work.

Edit - Remind me, it works OK for devices connected by ethernet but NOT for devices connected to WiFi?

Nothing works….. i have tried everything
You've left the pi plugged into ethernet the whole time

The final thing it could be is guest network security..just make sure on your extender when you setup your SSID you didn't create a guest network that limits access. Here's what it looks like on my mum's tp link...

You want at least the second one ticked.

Ethernet is ok, wifi is not working…..

@the-evaluator I wouldn't suggest leaving it open, more to see if the change allows him to see HA whilst on wireless.

What browser are you using on the ipad? Safari or Chrome?
It's all traffic within the same layer 2 network so it wouldn't be hitting the WAN interface of the router at all. As such port forwarding would do nothing other than expose Home Assistant to the internet.

Yeah I'd 100% wager wireless client isolation now. You need to check your WiFi extenders config for how you created the ssid.
I didnt create anything, i just plugged in the extender, connected it to my router via wps button and then plugged in the ethernet ports…..its not being used as a wifi extender, when it does it has a different name called bthomespot-2H7.

its only being used to carry the ethernet and its using the same SSID - SKYDEXDD

Ah interesting - check your sky router for the same config then.

Cant find that anywhere…… just for reference i just tried using my android with wifi off and using phone data and it still didnt find the HA server

From a quick google it seems that Sky routers don't have wireless isolation so that can't be the reason.

It's to be expected that you can't access it when using mobile data so don't read anything in to that.

Mention here of packet size causing an issue but I don't quite buy that.

How do i change the packet size on my router
